Hard to believe a school with this much basketball history and class allowed these types of things to happen then try to cover it up with their own form of punishment.
Indiana's simply following the process the NCAA has told them to follow. Cover up? They self-reported themselves. They're supposed to evaluate the violations they self-reported and self-impose restrictions and render an opinion on them.
Now, that's not always good enough, as Wisconsin found out:
http://www.ncaa.org/releases/infractions/2001/2001100202in.htm
The Committee on Infractions agreed with and approved the actions taken by Wisconsin but imposed additional penalties because the university has had three major infractions cases in the past eight years,, the case involved a serious lack of monitoring and because of the serious nature of the violations.
It's not a matter of intellgience, belligerence, arrogance or stupidity, it's exactly what the NCAA has told Indiana they absolutely must do.
And hind-sight is 20/20, so take it easy, Nostradamus.
