The Royals first round picks from 1992 to 2001

1992 picked Jim Pittsley # 17.  Could have had Shannon Stewart picked # 19.

1993 picked Jeff Granger at # 5.  Could have had Derek Lee picked # 14.

1994 picked Matt Smith at # 16.  Could have had Troy Gluas picked # 37.

1995 picked Juan LeBron at # 19.  Could have had Michael Barret at # 28, Jay Payton at # 29, Jarrod Washburn at # 31, or Sean Casey at # 53.  Consolation - they did get Carlos Betran at # 49.

1996 picked Dermal Brown at # 14.  Could have had Jake Westbrook at # 21, or Jimmy Rollins at # 46.

1997 picked Dan Reichert at # 7.  Could have had Lance Berkman picked # 16.

1998 picked Jeff Austin at # 4.  Could have had Brad Lidge at # 17.

1999 picked Kyle Snyder at # 7.  Could have had Ben Sheets at # 10, or Brett Myers at # 11.

2000 picked Mike Stodolka at # 4.  Could have had Chase Utley at # 15.

2001 picked Colt Griffin # 9.  Could have had Casey Kotchman at # 13, Noah Lowry at # 30, or David Wright picked # 38.

Thanks for the reminder, bigdmgr, lol.  Actually I knew the Royals just had a horrible time with their drafts and was looking it up as you posted this.  And to think, it took the Royals until 2006 to get rid of our general manager.

Can you post the link for the cheat sheet or at least post the 1984 Draft where Shawn Abner appeared. Gee all kinds of big names there huh PH? Big Mac at 10 30 picks before Maddux, 46 before Glavine. If you look at that list a lot of names that never panned out. PH who did you root for before the Marlins were created?

"Well, It's not baseball, but what about....."

1983 NFL Draft. The Raiders selected C Don Mosebar one pick before The Dolphins selected Dan Marino.............I guess they thought Marc Wilson was their QB of the future.........

Of course, the Chief (Todd Blackledge), The Patriot (Tony Eason) and The Jet (Kenny O'Brien) fans probably feel the same way too............

Unlikely since he only play about another 5 years before he traded away for the next round of young talent.  You know its true.  Hell he could end up back with the Sox since the 2 teams have such a great relation ship with trades...

I'd be looking at the Sox 2 top picks this year, coming to a Marlins team circa 2012 for HanRam.....face it, they have success but the Marlins are effectivelly MLB's AAA team, supplying proven talent to the league for a decade now...

xxgobosoxxx,

I know that it will be a few months before you will get these news in the northeast, but the Marlins have just gotten Hanley to a 6 year contract extension. Oh, and I know that this other news won't make it up there until Opening Day 2011, but the Marlins are getting a new stadium that will open on Opening Day of 2011.

i think baseball is the hardest sport to draft in.  You could say every team that past on Albert Pujols

The Royals were the biggest offenders on Pujols too.  He went to high school in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
