A sweep loses the Pens about 5 million dollars in found money. Once you get a comfortable 3-0 series lead, you lose game 4 and have 1 more in your barn. 1.8 million in ticket sales alone....add merchandise, food, beer, and the the revenue for local hotels and restaurants and it's a no brainer. Let one slide on Thursday and keep stuffing money in our pockets to sign Malone AND Hossa to extensions!

No chance, you have to go for the kill when you are in a situation like this. The rest will do Sid's ankle well.

Haha Laraque ... If this were the old Penguin regime, I would be right there will you. But Ron Burkle is a Billionaire ... with a big fat "B" ... and he really doesn't care about the extra money. He was actually asked this very same question, and his response was, "Let's have out next home game be game 1 against Detroit." (Of course, it will really be game 3, but you get the picture.) And Mario was asked about it, and he said that he would have to split the money with Burkle and others anyway, so it's really no big deal.
The great thing about having Burkle on board is that he is willing to spend money to win. The Pens will not have financial constraints to signing guys like Malone, Fleury, Hossa ... and then eventually Malkin and Staal. The constraint will be the NHL salary cap.
This is the first time since Howard Baldwin was on board that the Pens don't have tough financial constraints on their franchise. However, when Baldwin was on board, the Pens didn't have anyone properly managing the team ... Craig Patrick was given an open checkbook and went out and signed and traded for ridiculously overpriced players who were either overrated or well past their prime ... Kevin Hatcher, anyone? With Shero on board, the Pens have the best of both worlds ... an owner in Burkle who is willing to spend money, and a GM in Shero who can put proper value on players and make sound personnel decisions.

No way! You cut the head off the snake while you got it down. Just think if one of our Stars got injured. We don't need that noise. The city and the Pens will make enough money when they win the Cup.
GO PENS!!!

I hope not....I dont think you want to give the Flyers any momentum. I know the Penguins will win, but If the Flyers win one, they may be able to get the confidence they need to get 2 and last thing you want is to play six games. And then have to the Redwings who have had a lot of time to rest.

Crowdog you hit the nail on the head. I heard a similar comment from Burkle..."I don't care about another home playoff game...I just want to WIN!" He is a billionaire and he doesn't give a crap about a paltry 2+ million more.
In addition to that, this is the most focused hockey team I have ever seen. Unlike in football, where many Steelers do their own thing and don't give their best player (Roethlisberger) the respect he deserves, Sidney Crosby is respected and LOVED by his teammates. When answering a question after game two about Flyers complaints that the refs were favoring Pittsburgh and Crosby, he said "I honestly don't have a comment for that." Name me another 20 year old that wouldn't take the bait when another team implied that he is a wimp and a diver. Crosby doesn't care for talk...he only cares about results. The rest of the team does their best to live up to his standards.
Not only will this team beat Philly in 4, they will also take at least 1 of the first 2 in Detroit and win that series in 5 or 6. I definitely wouldn't want to be playing against the Pens right now. They're one of the most focused ant hottest teams in the history of hockey.

After speculating a 5 to 6 game series here, with a pens victory of course, it looks like they are poised to sweep this series, despite the possibility of a few extra million dollars in revenue if the series goes back to pittsburgh.
They'll make enough from making it to the finals : )

ok first of all if you are a true pens fan, you don't want them to EVER lose a game, no matter how much money they would make any other way, and second if you say to the players on your team to just slack off, what message does that send to them? Espescially in the playoffs whenever momentum can be the difference between a win and a loss, you never let a team back in a series. On top of that, 1.8 million dollars is nothing in the NHL, and the real problem with signing Hossa and Malone is the fact that we need to fit them under the salary cap, so a little extra money is not going to help. (AND ESPECIALLY AT THE EXPENSE OF A SERIES WIN!!!)
