" those candy cane warm ups"  have been around since before SIU was even founded.

It's called tradition, and some people don't erase it just to fit current fashion trends.

You people are just twisting this situation to suit your bias.

So giving the facts of what happened then watching you twist your own opinion isn't biased?

When a school reports themselves to the NCAA, how is that a denial?

Becaue IU initially denied any wrong doing. Please re-read the story, you'll be amazed.

When a school gives their opinion about what punishments they deserve (in addition to the punishments they've already levied on the themsleves), how is that telling the NCAA what to do?

Like I said, just because of some dusty banners they've got hanging, doesn't mean they are still a NCAA basketball powerhouse. They think they're above any NCAA punishment and the can just skip away like nothing happened. the knew the risk and now they should have to deal with. It's insulting to every other college basketball institution. Reap what you sow.

So giving the facts of what happened then watching you twist your own opinion isn't biased? What did I twist?  I didn't really supply much opinion at all.  Except that I don't think it's ethically wrong to hire a coach that was on probation for breaking a rule.  That opinion suits no bias, I believe in 2nd chances in most cases.

Becaue IU initially denied any wrong doing. Please re-read the story, you'll be amazed.

I read the store you linked.  I don't see where it says that IU initially denied wrong doing.  It did however say that it was an IU investigation that brought to light what rules were broken.

Like I said, just because of some dusty banners they've got hanging, doesn't mean they are still a NCAA basketball powerhouse. As opposed to who?  Teams that have made the top ten for the past couple years, but  never won a title?

This is more of you either completely lacking the ability to understand, or completely twisting facts to suit your bias and hatred toward IU.  (is this all because they spanked the salukis on their homecourt?)

What is arrogant or insulting about making a statement that they believe the punishments they've given themselves are sufficient?

You obviously ignored most all my previous posts and just quoted a few lines, because you're just repeating your original post without any response to the facts I supplied.

(not to mention, most of the "facts" you supplied are false.  They aren't even supported by the article you supplied).

" those candy cane warm ups" have been around since before SIU was even founded.

Go ahead, pound your IU chest, but it seems like the deep roots and tradition of IU basketball are starting to weaken. Kind of like your argument and throwing SIU in the mix. Pathetic really considering SIU has a fraction of the money IU has and still remains a very successful program. Had SIU been involved with this same sleeze ball acts like IU and USC,  the NCAA's would be throwing the hammer down.  IU is acting like a spoiled brat and it's getting a little old.

Oh, man, here we go...

Indiana denied it. Fact

Not a fact. Not even close to a fact, the reason the NCAA even reviewed the situation as far as anyone on the outside knows is because Indiana told them to!

Indiana then fires an assistant, throwing him under the bus. Fact

Erm, every single coach staff member has been displaced. You say you wan these people punished and you chose to throw Indiana under the bus for punishing  themselves? That doesn't make any sense, this wasn't a crappy recruiter, he was the guy brought Ebanks and Holloway into the fold.

The NCAA committee then found major violations and Indiana finally admits. Fact

Indiana agrees with the NCAA and takes further action firing a coach responsible for building a 25-win team and effectively cancels the remainder of their season.

Now Indiana believes they can make there own rules, punish themselves, and dismiss the NCAA's rules and regulations as if they do not apply or should not apply to them.

Clueless. I think you better go read up on how the NCAA's self-reporting process works, here's another example:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2623000

You see that??

Citing academic fraud by a former graduate assistant football coach and a woeful compliance record under former athletic director Al Bohl, the NCAA extended Kansas' self-imposed probation through October 2009.

Like Kansas and Wisconsin (in my earlier example) there are *no* hard and fast rules in terms of absolute punishments. Indiana's supposed to self-report, they did, they're supposed to determine reasonable self-punishment, they did. The NCAA came back with further transgression which called for steeper self-punishment, Indiana did.

Now they're at the point of rendering an opinion to the NCAA, they'll meet in June and reconcile any potential differences. You don't seem to have a clear handle on how this works and what Indiana has done to date.

If you want to continue this discussion, I think you had better do us all a favour and list the self-imposed punishments Indiana has placed upon itself, otherwise you appear to be clueless as to what Indiana has actually done in light as to what has happened.

Look, I'm sorry SIU simply cannot beat IU at Assembly Hall or at home, and your chance is probably gone as we won't renew the series as IU has much bigger fish to fry. But all of that is independent of the discussion in question.

I read the story that you linked. I don't see where it says that IU initially denied wrong doing. It did however say that it was an IU investigation that brought to light what rules were broken.

For being such a IU fan and supporter, I would think you would know the entire story rather than just going by what I posted...

(is this all because they spanked the salukis on their homecourt?)

No, just as it's not the reason for the story continually being in the headlines. Wake up. Oh, and as long as we're mentioning getting beat down at home, please remind me about SIU football (IAA mind you) coming to IU and laying a beat down. that was embarrassing....

(not to mention, most of the "facts" you supplied are false. They aren't even supported by the article you supplied).

Maybe they aren't in the article, but they are facts. Considering you either can't do the research yourself or are just too lazy, I don't see anything from you proving them otherwise.

but it seems like the deep roots and tradition of IU basketball are starting to weaken. Kind of like your argument and throwing SIU in the mix.Really?  Seems to me that Crean is laying foundations that will return IU to it's former glory.  Alot of people, who aren't insanely jealous and bitter towards IU's success and prestige(this means YOU), agree.

As for my argument, I'm just providing facts, you're the one that is lying to support a case you don't have, and twisting statements to make them suit your bias.  Yeah, it's my argument that's weak.  Sure.

Pathetic really considering SIU has a fraction of the money IU has and still remains a very successful program.

SIU is very successful?  According to whose standards?

fraction of the money, because as a program they've accomplished an infinitesimal fraction as much as Indiana.  (you have to succeed as a program, to get money for a program.  IU didn't start with money, they earned it.)

Comparing what happened at IU with what is happening at USC just shows how much your logic is twisted by the biased hatred you have towards the hoosiers.  Show some objectivity, because you're looking foolish.

No, just as it's not the reason for the story continually being in the headlines.
THis is what happens to a program that is followed by the nation, as opposed to a program that is followed by one small town in illinois.

Oh, and as long as we're mentioning getting beat down at home, please remind me about SIU football (IAA mind you) coming to IU and laying a beat down. that was embarrassing....
So you're comparing SIU's basketball team to IU's football team?   Sounds about right.

Maybe they aren't in the article, but they are facts. Considering you either can't do the research yourself or are just too lazy, I don't see anything from you proving them otherwise. That's just it, I've read all about the situation.  And I've seen no article that supports the "fact" about IU denying wrong-doing.  And since you've supplied absolutely no evidence to support it, why should I do research to prove wrong, what you've yet to prove right.

Uh, I'll give that credit to Gordon, not Sampson. Well maybe sampson for backdooring Illinois, but that's about it.  Telling your star player to "shoot it every time he gets it" is hardly what I would call "building" a 25-win season.

I could care less what IU has done to themselves, that doesn't make them ineligible for further sanctions places on them by the NCAA's. to suggest so is obsurd.

Let me be clear, I think that IU did exactly what any other university would have done admist accusations that they cheated. I'm not holding that against them, but to act as if they don't deserve anything more that what they've handed themselves, is ridiculous. they caused the problems themselve's no one else. Trying to reduce further problems by shaking  fingers at themselves is pathetic.

For specific example, Gordon shot 3 more times than Falker, when the two teams played.

I could care less what IU has done to themselves, that doesn't make them ineligible for further sanctions places on them by the NCAA's. to suggest so is obsurd.Who said it made them ineligible?  Not IU.

Again, IU reported themselves, they didn't respond to accusations.  There is a difference, and obviously, not every program reports themselves (e.g. USC)

If a school was caught doing what IU did (make too many phone calls to recruits), what is the appropriate punishment?  What would happen to SIU?  Reduced scholarships?  Restricted coach contact with recruits?   (i'm sure you'll say post-season ban, because objectivity is not you're forte).  IU did those I mentioned, and more (considering how they punished the coaching staff).

This sounds about right for your content in this thread to date. Obviously you don't care and it appears you don't have much of a working handle on what that actually is. Do I have to list them for you?

Who said Indiana's ineligible for anything? They simply rendered an opinion that they believe their self-imposed punishments are sufficient. That doesn't mean they are, the NCAA can do whatever it wants and Indiana will have to live that, just calm down and wait until August, we'll all know what that is, then.

Indiana didn't win 25 games w/ Gordon, alone. Gordon if anything didn't take enough shots per game in my opinion, given his talent. Not to mention Indiana had a pretty okay year the year before Gordon arrived. Who will you credit for that, DJ White? He had a so-so year, that year.

Thats right. Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact IU stupidly hired a coach while he was still under investigation and also probation. You'd have to be a fool to not understand that IU is complete joke at this point. That's why it's in the headlines, but keep on pusing the "small school" "small town" liners again. very original.

why should I do research to prove wrong, what you've yet to prove right.

Oh I don't know, since you think that by arguing with me on my points might motivate you do so, but I'm sure that assuming WAY too much about you.
