Michigan should finish third in the Big 10 behind Ohio State and Wisconsin. I think they beat Utah and annihilate ND. No way they finish behind Mich State or Penn State ( too much turmoil and injury issues at PSU) RR's system will be a tough learning curve for this year for them to challenge for the Big 10 Championship and next year they will have to get the two stud recruit QB's a chance to learn and grow. 9-3 this year 10-2 or better next season. Michigan can beat the mich st's,iowa's,indiana's, etc on defense and reputation alone. As for the Big 10 not being a tough conference you may want to check your source of info. The Big 10 is an extermely tough and relevant conference. In the last 10 years it has 2 National Championships (OSU and MICH), three National Runner-ups (OSU 98,06,07) and it wasnt too long ago that OSU and MICH played 1 vs 2 and beat the hell out of each other to the point they both went into their bowls games way either lazy and over confident(OSU) or un-interested and half efforted(MICH) . Say all you want about the mighty SEC but if ESPN didnt ride their jocks so hard you'd have the same thing you have in the BIG 10: 3-4 teams with a legitimate shot to win it all each season, 2-4 teams that suprise from time to time, and 3-4 also rans that aside from a miracle season every decade or so have no relevance during football season. Play the games heads up in the sunshine in their home states all cozy warm and its a toss up, bring them north to the Shoe, Big House, Happy Valley in November/ December/January and lets see how much all that "speed" helps in the sleet/snow with tempeartures in the teens.....

RR is not flexible.  Not necessarily a good thing in CFB (see pitt loss)

Pitt loss: Kicker missed 2 field goals/

Some of the legitimate RR complaints of WVU fans has me concerned about not only this, but upcoming seasons.

You cant pay attention to the sour grapes...look at Rods records at WVU the previous coach had 3 double digit win seasons in 20 years....Rod had 3 in 7 years....including 4 big east championships.  THE WVU FANS LOVED him  until he resigned.

How many times have you read WVU fans mentioning the bubble screen, or RR only has four plays?  Four plays is not an offensive genious.  Having a Pat white (or similar QB) who can tunr nothing into something, makes you look better than you are.  Do we have a Pat White?  Remember, RR wasn't all that successful at WVU until White and Slaton took the field

Do you honestly think he has only 4 plays?  Do we have a Pat White? We are Michigan for god sakes...our recruiting radius is the entire nation. At WVU the recruiting radius was the size of Detroit! What blue chip recruit would want to go to friggin West Virginia? Rod won with those scraps...not only did he win but he nearly won a NC !

Dont worry about Pat WHite...have you seen Feagins stats? He also signed his guy for next year we should be fine.  Slaton?? Weve got 4 or 5 guys better than Slaton.

Rods record at wvu

2001...3-8

2002...9-4

2003..8-5

2004...8-4

2005...11-1

2006..11-2

2007...10-2

Slaton..because he was so small was only recruited by 4 teams..he chose Maryland but they passed on him and gave the scholarship to somebody else...Rod's offense turned him into a star.

Sclabach writes for ESPN and for some resason ESPN writers are not giving Michigan much credit and are expecting a very down year. It's hard to argue because here is what our Wolverines are facing...

  • Entire new coaching staff not from the Michigan alumni tree
  • New offense that must deal with several key position replacements like:
  • Replace 4 yr starting QB Chad Henne a 2nd rd NFL draft selection. Looks like hometown redshirt freshmen Steven Threet will get the first shot at running RR offense.
  • Replace all time leading rusher in Michigan history 4 yr starter Mike Hart 6th rd selection.
  • One returning offensive linemen and lack of depth and expierence. Tackle is a critical position in the spread offense and the Wolverines may have to count on in coming true freshmen Dan O'Neill (6'8" 285 * 4 star recruit) to start from day one
  • WR's are talented with several big play options the question will the line allow enough time for Threet to throw them the ball without feeling rushed.
  • Can our defense carry us for the season? Many games this year will fall on their shoulders can they handle it? We have the talent to be very good and fast, our secondary could be one of the best in the country.
  • SCHEDULE it's a tough one Michigan is replacing so much at one time with so many obstacles it would be a shock if they finish in the top 3 of the Big 10 this year so the experts think. Every game means something starting with Utah on August 30.

Utah - they run the spread and beat UCLA last yearcould give Michigan fits very early. Michigan pulls it out in the end with tough 4th quarter defense (WIN).

Miami (Ohio) - This is going to be a good one Redhawks HC wanted the Michigan job and he's from the Michigan family. Upset?? Michigan in another close one (WIN).

at Notre Dame - The Irish pull hold on a win a close game at home. Freshmen QB road blues hurt U of M in this one. (LOSS)

Wisconsin - Shocker in the Big House Badgers win a nail bitter. (LOSS)

Illinois - Coming off back to back losses Michigan cruises pass the Illini (WIN)

Toledo - Rockets are decent but RR unleashes his defense in a dominating victory (WIN)

at Penn State - PSU is replacing a ton of talent on both sides of the ball Michigan will be better prepared for their 2nd road game. Threet plays strong and a Michigan (WIN)

Michigan State - Dickantonio will be eating his comments from the '07 game. RR first win over the Spartans. (WIN)

at Purdue - Tiller gets revenge on RR for taking a recruit away at the last second in this years recruiting battle trail. (LOSS)

at Minnesota - Talent prevails in this outcome. (WIN)

Northwestern - This could turn out to be a trap game for the Wolverines and the Wildcats have given Michigan fits over the years. (LOSS).

at Ohio State - The Buckeyes could be in the BCS championship hunt once again and Michigan will look to play spoiler on the road with a frosh at QB. Special teams plays a huge role in this one as does some magic. (WIN)

8-4 regular season

5-3 Big 10

Outback Bowl January 1, 2009

Dude! Purdue!!!!!!???????  Joe T????????  Are you on some kind of new perscription???

And while we're at it, Northwestern in The Big House!!!!!!!???????

I'm sorry, but I just think that's delusional.  I think we've got way more to worry about in MSU and Utah, for crying out loud, than these two.

Yeah I have to agree with Big Blue.

Losing to Notre Lame.... I highly doubt that first road game that will be a game defense will have to step up because they've been in South Bend before. Purdue?? Tiller couldnt beat us if he even tried they wont be able to stop the spread or our defense,  Northwestern??? at the Big House not happening, the defense will be monster on them, in the past they've only been able to give us fits because defense in the past took a while to get into the game, I doubt that will be the case this year.

I do however like your last game lol, Yeah I have no doubt we'll lay the wood to the Suckeyes, It's gonna be to much, this year they are in the role we were last year.

The only games I am skittish about is the Illinois game and the OSU game other then that I dont have any worries, however I do think that while Penn State wont be a threat the hostile environment will be interesting.

The Miami, Toledo and NorthWestern games will be games that allow us to flex our muscles. The Toledo game, Rich will probably open up the play book a little more and let the guys just go out and have fun running down their throats. Give em a taste of good ole Big Ten Michigan football.

GO BLUE!

Hey Big Blue Fan,

Like I said in my first thread...Michigan is replacing a ton and not to mention an entire new system and coaching staff. This is why the media believes Michigan will struggle in year one of the Rich Rodriguez era. Every team he has took over struggled in year one.

Purdue returns the best QB in the Big 10 Curtis Painter and it's a home game for Purdue. Michigan can beat Purdue but there is a reason many think the Wolverines will win only 6 or 7 games this year.

Northwestern game...like I said a trap game. Michigan should beat them but I just made a guess. Either Michigan losses to Utah or Northwestern something has to give right? Plus the Wildcats have won in the Big House before!

Why worry about little sister? They are rebuilding like always. Ringer is their only weapon.

I hope I'm wrong...I'm just trying to be honest with the current situation. Hell RR does not seem like he has confidence in Threet and looks like he is waiting for Feagan to arrive in Ann Arbor...A TRUE FRESH who is a 3 star recruit! Yikes!
