Is Mike Jenkins the next Bobby Carpenter?

Carpenter was drafted because they werent sure if Elli was going to make the transition to OLB.

Some factors for consideration:

TNew's contract is up next year and he'll be after mega money. 

Henry's age

we dont know how Adam Jones will be after a year of not playing.

Drafting Jenkins now gives him a year to develop quietly in his own time.

I doubt Jenkins will get squeezed out like Carpenter was.  Next year he'll be in heavy rotation.

Damn, dude -- all we've had are a few days of OTAs and already you're down on Mike Jenkins...?

C'mon...

Smoke- I think the big difference with Carpenter from Jenkins....is that with our defense we have 3 to 4 DB's on the field quite often....where as we dont have 3 or 4 LOLB or ROLB....we have just 4 LB's 1ROLB 1LOLB and so on and so forth..... Carpentar got lost in the shuffle because at every LB position there was quality depth....Jenkins is coming in possibly the 4th CB and could see the field quite often....i am not worried though....we will see this training camp...should be interesting...good post

The more that I have thought about this pick the more I realize that either Newman or Henry will not be a Cowboy next season.

Unfortunantly I think Newman will want a big contract and he will go where he can get a big deal like Asante and D. Hall. A corner of Newman's caliber will be highly sought after.

 All fine points made by qprco. But I think Pac will be fine because he brings serious skills to the table. As long as he gets reinstated for the start of training camp he will perform at a high level this year.

 T-New may be gone next year as he will be looking for serious compensation that Dallas may not be able to afford. Could be one of reasons they nabbed two corners in the draft. Planning ahead.

 As stated, Jenkins and the kid from Boise don't have to be thrown in the fire, so to speak. Next year is when more will be expected of them.
