The Yanks have 2 big holes in their starting rotation(worst starters ERA in AL), and this does not include Mussina, who WILL NOT continue to have the same success he's currently having all year..Where are the Yanks going to find 2 starters? With the Yanks starters' struggles, the pressure on the Yankee line-up to produce is much greater than the Sox.. this being the post-steriod era, you cannot continue to count on hitters approaching and past the age of 35 producing career years( see Damon, Posada, Jeter, AROD, Giambi, etc.)
................
First, the Yankees do not have the worst starter's ERA in the AL. That honor belongs to Detroit, but a pretty healthy margin.
Mussina may not continue to pitch as well as he has, but Pettitte almost assuredly will pitch better, because he always does as the season goes along.
And I could make the exact same argument about the Red Sox. Beckett has scuffled for most of the year, and everyone else has been up and down. Dice-K has a shiny 6-0 record and low ERA, but he has such a propensity for the walk that it's rare he goes more than 5 innings, which puts the game in a very suspect bullpen's hands. And Dice-K was pretty lousy in the 2nd half last year. Who's to say that won't happen again? If Moose is going to decline, then last year says Dice is too.
So where exactly is this rotation so much more solid than NY's?
I ain't seeing it.

Of course YOU don't... If you take off your Yankee colored glasses, you MAY see it... It does help...But I'll help you b/c you seem to miss the point about the Yanks having 2 big holes in their rotation...
Hughes- 0-4 9.00
Kennedy- 0-3 8.48
You need some SERIOUS help if you think those 4th and 5th starters are better than ANY team in major league baseball...So, i say it again, where do the Yanks find 2 starters?
The Yankees WILL have to outscore teams like they did last year if they want to make the playoffs, regardless of what you think..

LOL
The guy who says the Sox rotation is solid, but the Yank rotation is flawed is telling me I'm wearing Yankee colored glasses
Alrighty then. Yank rotation is not in great shape, and I've never tried to argue otherwise. I will argue that the Sox rotation is not much better. And the bullpen is infinitely worse. If Beckett continues to pitch like this is 2006, and Dice has a recurrence of his 2nd half woes, Sox could be in real serious trouble.
In case you haven't noticed, Hughes has been DLed, and his spot has been filled admirably by Darrell Rasner. Kennedy still has a lot of work to do, no question, but the Yankees have been in far worse shape than this in their rotation. Last year, and 2005 spring immediately to mind. In 2005, Cash fixed it on the fly (Chacon & Small), and last year, they got big second half contributions from their minors. Guess what? They still have a boatload of pitching in their minors-either to trade for that upgrade or to use.
Don't remember the Sox having a bullpen quite this bad in recent memory though.
The bottom line is this is a 970 run team missing their 2 most vital cogs in their line-up. If they keep pitching even as well as they have, when those guys come back, they're going to win a lot more than they lose.

having guys that suck less doesn't make them not suck....
----
Precisely the point...If you " suck less," than you're better by default.. Understand? I never stated that the Sox have the best starting pitching in baseball, but I am stating based mostly on the 4th and 5th spots that the Sox are better than the Yankees.. To argue differently is ludicrous...

Or just seeing things through Sox-colored glasses, whichever you prefer.
