In what ways do you think that the President of a University can positively or negatively affect the football team? What do you think his scope of power is in that regard? I believe you are significantly overestimating his direct effect on the athletics department. Of course football is a big part of what defines FSU, particularly on a national scale, but make no mistake that President Wetherell's first and foremost obligation is to the success of the University as an academic institution.
If you want to blame a University administrator for the football team's recent struggles (which I don't think you can), then the only person that MIGHT even factor in would be the Athletic Director. So if you blame the AD, then you should actually THANK President Wetherell, because his well-publicized disfavor for Dave Hart is almost certainly the reason that Hart stepped down a few months ago after 13 years as AD.
The truth is that when a football team is as good for as long as FSU was, your Assistant Coaches start drawing interest from other schools to become Head Coaches. Do you really think that it was coincidence that FSU's decline and Georgia's return to national significance began in conjunction with Mark Richt's promotion from OC at FSU to Head Coach at UGA? If you replace a great offensive coordinator like Richt with Jeff Bowden, you pay the price. And it's not necessarily just the bad play-calling, but when you lose great recruiters, you lose great recruits, and then you lose ball games.
That being said, I think Jimbo is going to get the offense back to consistently putting up 30+ on people (and hanging like 80 on Duke) again within the next few years.
Brandon Paul, Bert Reed, and Taiwan Easterling are legit. Don't say I didn't warn you.
