I know this is crazy, almost blasphemy to some people. Moving Griffey out of the 3 hole for Edwin, King of Inconsistancy. And yeah, it would be pretty risky. But let me throw some stats for you from 2006 and 2007 (2006 listed first/2007 second):

Normal average: .276/.289

Bases empty: .230/.258

With Runners on: .325/.325

RISP: .306/.360

Base Loaded: .467/.471

Anyone else notice a DIFFERENCE? Edwin doesn't just hit better in RBI situations, he hits WAY better. If we want to get the most out of him, should we not put him in RBI situations? He also showed some significant hitting improvement from 2006 to 2007, and this year while he's been in a bit of a slump lately, he's still knocking them out of the park at a much higher rate than ever before. 1/4 throught the season, he's got 8. That tracks to somewhere around 30 homers, his previous career high being 16. He's certainly hitting better than Griffey is. If these stats hold true, Edwin raises his average significantly due to more RBI situations, and I don't see Griffey's dropping quite as much. Which means more hits, more runs, more wins, and possibly a solution to the Reds offensive woes.

So, I pose this question to the rest of you. Who here thinks Edwin can bat third? And please, lets keep his glove out of the discussion here. Judge him only on his offense.

I like it. I think EE would fit into the 3 spot really well... He's definitely come around since the beginning of the season and he hasn't shown any sign of slowing up. He's found his confidence and that can only mean good things.

We should definitely try it. I mean, he can't be worse than Jr, can he? EE does hit WAYYYYY better with runners on and RISP than he does with the bases empty. And what do we ask the 3 hitter to do? HIT WITH RUNNERS ON BASE! Jr. is incapable of doing that right now.
Busty has shuffled the lineup more than Jerry Narron has, and that's saying something. But the one thing that he has not tried is to move Jr. out of that 3 hole. He's just kept him there and moved other players. I wouldn't exactly try it now, because we seem to be hitting better. But if we regress to our early season form within the next week, I say go for it.

well, he did hit griffey 2nd for 3 or 4 games. i think griffey should move out of the 3-spot as well, maybe to 5th. i think edwin should bat cleanup (this would work best with griffey or dunn 3rd, or votto, but that's beside the point). everybody has an idea for the lineup.

Rediculous. Did you go to school with Dusty Baker ? It isn't about EE. He's a good #3 hitter for about 3 weeks a year, and you have to know when those 3 weeks are going to be, don't you ?
If you want to look at stats- Adam Dunn has the on base percentage of someone hitting 100-points higher than his current batting average- why ? Because the entire NL (except Dusty) understands that THE easiest way to beat the Reds is to NOT give Dunn a pitch he can hit. EE didn't stop that, they would still rather pitch to him with the bases loaded than Dunn with 2 on.
Griffey is a #5 hitter, at best, but would offer the best protection for Dunn. Baker hasn't fugured out how to hit Griffey directly behind Dunn yet.....you would think that a manager that can't score 3 runs without a homer would have though of that, huh ? Until you force teams to pitch more to your strengths, instead of to .260 streak hitters like Encarnacion, this team will be in the cellar.

Nice post! GLOVE ASIDE. Its very important to have your number 3 guy to have the ability to drive the ball in key situations such as RISP or in a close game. Dunn does produce walks, why would anyone want there number 3 hitter to walk or stikeout all the time? with that said Dunn would still make a good number 3 choice if walking was all he did but its not he K's all the time instead of moving runners is what kills it.
