If the Mariners find some way to take sole possession of the cellar; the worst team in baseball, by losing to the woeful Padres...what should we do?

Fire McLaren?  I don't know why it's taken so long already, but this needs to happen.  He's just a grumpy old man lost in a department store (who perhaps has crapped his pants).

Fire Bavasi?  Like McL
aren.  He almost singlehandedly made the Mariners the team they were in the 80's.  I'm surprised he didn't try to hire Harold Reynolds to replay for the M's.

Move Batista to the bullpen?  Not sure he has much to offer their either...but the guy allows batters to hit over .300.  That's just unacceptable.  He has no good pitches, and isn't crafty enough to win.  Last year he threw some gems to go along with his stinkers, but this year...just stinkers.

Move Clement back to AAA or trade him?  My opinion is, he needs to develope.  A rookie DH?  that's just stupid.  plus, he has less RBI's than three different pitchers on the Atlanta Braves (who combined have less at bats than Clement) PLus they pitch!!!!What else does Clement do, besides strike out?   Potential????Yes, but currently, he sucks.

Move Ichiro to cleanup?  He's the only guy trying (and even he takes at bats off).  Sexson shouldn't even be playing anymore.  Beltre tries to take the cover off the ball (but I'd be glad if he just made contact on his first swing, then whiff as big as he does).  Ibanez is good/great, but makes up for it with terrible fielding.

Dump 'em all?  I can't believe this team can't produce.  I know that McLaren isn't a good manager, but even teams without leadership win sometimes (like the Lakers of last year).  Even though we have issues as a team, we shouldn't be the worst team in the league?  What gives?

You really hate Clement don't you...Give the kid a break....He is struggling yes, but really why should we send him back to AAA or trade him??  Yes, he is struggling (you have said that in 5 different posts).  First off, he shouldn't be our DH.  McLaren is a idiot and is making him hit DH.  All the pressure is on him getting out their and hitting.  He needs to be catching more and also should be getting starts at first base.  If you haven't noticed, the whole teams sucks just not clement.  Moving him back to AAA (where he has done all he should) isn't going to make the m's into a superteam all of the sudden.

I agree with you on Miguel sucking.  It took him I believe 45 seconds to give up a run last night.  No joke either....the game started and 45 seconds later the Padres are on the board.  He can't find the strike zone anymore, it might be his time.  Also, your idea about Ichiro hitting cleanup isn't a bad one.  If only the M's had another speed threat to bat leadoff to replace Ichi.  I have seen batting practice where Ichiro unleashes the fury onto balls.  He can bring the power when he feels like it.

But, this is really sad.  I would have never of thought at this time the M's would be battleing for the worst record in the majors.  We suck, it is sad to look at the mlb standing and see how many teams and what teams are better than us.

I never said I hated Clement.  He's big, imposing, has a good swing.  He just doesn't give us anything else right now.  He is being misused by McLaren, but from what I've heard, he's not much of a defensive asset (whereas Sexson is--and despite other posters Jojima as well).  If Clement could play OF, I'd gladly let him have Ibanez's spot, but that's like repairing a flat tire with a piece of duct tape.  Clement should be able to hit at some point.  But since he's been called up, we're like 2 - 12.  We were at least close to .500 with Vidro as DH (even with his sucky average).

Besides Ibanez, we really don't have a legitimate DH.  Yet we let him (mis)play the field.

Clement has an upside.  But he isn't the savior you all make him out to be.  He is remarkably a lot like the Frank Thomas you all were adamant we not sign.  Big, slow, no defensive abillity...on the upside Clement is young, so we have him for some time.  On the flip side, Thomas has proved he can hit at this league and would contribute immediately.  Cancer: maybe, but this team is already in need of chemotherapy.   We just need to treat the IBS, indigestion, schizophrenia, manic depression, and arthritis that is also plaguing this team.

No, we probably will win at least one. Beating Batista is a extremely common occurrence this year. Now you have to face Bedard and Hernandez back to back.  Facing the Padres offense, which is similarly anemic as the Mariners,  could be a confidence booster  needed for these two. Despite this, I wouldn't bet on the Mariners winning the next two anyways, this team just plain sucks. I also didn't mention that we will just miss Peavy, thank god....

I don't know what it's going to take to get Jeff Clement going.  I think he needs to play the field, though.  All he's doing now as DH is sitting on the bench and thinking about how much he is struggling.  He needs to play catcher.  Richie Sexson is far too big a target for Yuniesky Betancourt, and a good fielding first baseman to play DH, although I would like to see how Jeff would do over there.  I suppose that's incorrect for me to say, I don't know how Jeff would do at first base vs. Richie.  Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea.  At any rate, he should be playing more of the field, get his mind solely off hitting and INTO THE GAME.  Anyone who said drop Miguel Cairo and bring up Jeremy Reed has got my vote.  We need speed on the bench, not pinstripes.  I do hope that McLaren gets the axe if they lose this series.

HOW CAN WE EXPECT TO BE CONSISTENTLY GOOD IF WE DON'T HAVE A CONSISTENT LINEUP?  Or even something close to it.  Of all of the "different looks" we have seen this year, I haven't seen Clement pressed in to a spot in the lineup with any protection this year...  Granted I may have missed a game.  I suppose that with this year's production, batting 7th or 8th has as much protection as batting 3rd or 4th, but the opposing pitchers still know who has hurt them in the past, even if they're playing like crap now.

THIS TEAM NEEDS A SHAKE-UP, ROLL A FEW MORE HEADS!!!

Bavasi, McLaren, THE MOOSE.

Go Mariners!

you keep making your point about sending Clement down to develop? he has nothing to develop down there except playing first base maybe, he will be 2 year straight all star has nothing left to prove..you still havent mentioned your solution in replacing Clement then, Vidro? Cairo? Bloomquist? I'd

Yes, Wazzufan, and you've made your point about Kenji sucking; which nobody else agrees with.

You can contradict me all you want, but statistically, Kenji has shown he is at least an average catcher in this league (which you don't agree with), however Clement has shown so far he can not hit at this level.  He WAS an all-star in AAA.

Likewise, I played baseball in H.S., I was an all-star 3B.  I'm not naive enough to believe I was good enough to be an all-star in a 5A or 6A league, or even that I deserved a shot at college ball (although I would've jumped at the chance had somebody offered).  Just because somebody is good at one level, doesn't instantly mean he has surpassed that level.  I would love it if suddenly Clement started hitting.  But he hasn't so far.  I don't know what the problem is, but he doesn't even look that good up there, swinging at balls, watching strikes.

Oh, and by the way, I've only made my point about Clement on one other thread that I started.  If you don't remember, I offered five different scenarios as to how to win TODAY.  Not next year, not when Ichiro retires.  Not when the Sonics are playing in Oklahoma.  I want to win today.  And benching and or demoting Clement is one, ONE, 1, way.   Not the only way.  We have many problems, but not enough to scratch the season away.

truth is Clement was an all-star at the AAA level which means you are good enough to hit at the MLB level, he has struggled in his 50 at bats so far and your naive to give up on him already, A. he showed last year he can hit in the MLB for his few at bats, his spring training numbers show he can hit MLB level, and he has been coming around lately with hitting the cover off the ball just at people, he is a hitter who will strikeout 100 plus times a year, and Kenji is an average catcher at best..but he is a far superior to Jeff...definetly naive to think there is a chance at winning this year, I guess I have missed every one of your threads that has anything to do with us winning this year, will you please re-write them to see if you are really logical or not because there is no shot at Seattle winning this year and thats exactly why you dont give up on Clement, especially if you dont give up on Kenji, neither is hitting well but Clement hasnt caused a stir in the clubhouse as Kenji has right now with him and Bedard and Felix

The Bedard you saw today is what you should see from here on out. I'm glad to see him finally getting back to his usual self.

After skimming through a couple threads, I see that some of you are already saying this is a rebuilding season. I bet Bedard is thrilled about that one. He asked out of Baltimore because he didn't want to be part of a rebuild, so he is traded to Seattle to become.. part of a rebuild? Oh, the irony. I hope not though.

Nice job by Bedard last night, but if we lose the series today then i would advise Seattle Police to have a suicide watch on around 4 outside Safeco.

The season, as weird as this sounds, will come down to the remainder of May.  If we can win 70% of our games, we stay with the core.  If we go
