The difference the last few years is that this "Big Ten team" has won those games and qualified for a big bowl...while ND has lost...and lost alot. Sitting home getting no bowl $$, and wondering how their program has turned into a national joke in such a short time.

2 words: Charlie Weis.  He can recruit.  (or maybe it's just the ND name)  But he sure as hell can't win a big game!  The Irish made a huge freakin mistake firing Tyrone Willingham.  Didn't Willingham (21-15) have about the same record thus far than Charlie White err.. Weis(22-15).  So those 2 years Weis and ND actually went to a bowl game they were with Willingham's players?  Yeah, that's what I thought.  So ND football has become irrelevant?  Not yet, but it is heading in that direction.  But doesn't ND get all of that money from TV and licensing contracts?  Yep, but that well is about to run dry.  Does anyone think NBC will pay that much again?  Nope.  So doesn't it make more sense to align in an all sports conference?  Yes.  Will they do it?  Probably not.  ND football is like an aging beauty queen that thinks she's still hot and is stuck up, while everyone else thinks her wrinkles, extra weight and stretch marks make her look hideous.

Don't know if anyone's still following this thread, but I think this says something about all of this speculation...

Of course, "not interested in expanding at this time" could translate to "if ND leaves we'll see."

I cant say anything for sure about whats going to happen. However, I can atleast confirm that Hillbilly is not making any of this up. The rumors flying around Memphis backs up exactly what hillbilly has said. Granted these are just rumors. However, it has been reported on a local Memphis station that the U of M is discussing its future with conference USA and that RC Johnson (athletic director) has been in extensive talks with the Big East. They say nothing will be announced untill Johnson gets back in town.  So if this is just a rumor, then why are we talking about it like it’s a fact. The only things that I know is, Syracuse is playing Memphis on the road this year in a home and home agreement and talks about Memphis spreading a rumor around about them joining the Big East. Yet nobody has provided a valid link to a real source (not a radio station). Would you also tell me when RC Johnson gets back into town ?

Thank You Pittbaster, for providing a real link to some proof that these rumors were false. I should have known that Mike Tranghese was too stupid to send an invitation to one of the best college basketball programs in the country. I made the last post not realizing that Pittbaster posted that.
