If so, then forget it.  There's too many crooked sandbaggers out there.

Agreed. I don't think golf should be taking on this kind of format - if anything, it already sounds like the actual golf is taking a backseat to gambling.

Generally in these big money Vegas deals, a lot of high rollers play, and yes, the handicap is part of it. In many cases, so is open "cheating" (although I guess it's not cheating if everybody can do it). For example, in one story I read about such events, a lot of players use Vaseline on the clubfaces of their drivers to make the ball fly straighter, things like that.

Don't know if this would be that open, but I'll bet handicaps are involved.

a round of golf is already 4-5 hrs. how long would all this betting take ? no thanks! it's a bad sign to "bet" on anything.

didn't michael jordan get in trouble for this same thing? his outstanding golf debts in 94 ?

There are no handicaps used in this formatFlagman:  There may not be handicap included in the score, but they are still flighting the tournament based on handicap.  In my book that means handicap is still part of the deal.  There's still room for sandbagging cheats who should be in the first flight, but will have a better chance to clean up in the second or third flight.  Handicap indexes have a come a long way, but they still aren't reliable enough to truly weed out the skilled sandbaggers.
