I am growing tired of hearing this year after year. It seems every draft class wants more money than the class before it. You have guys who havent proved squat making 50-75 million.

You read everyday on CNN & Yahoo how familes are barely making it with Bills and gas prices soaring. Military Vets (the REAL heros) who cant pay medical bills. You now have guys fresh out of college who will never have to worry about any of this, and half of them are thugs who cant stay out of jail and beat women. And what do they do for a living ?? PLAY A FRIGGING KIDS GAME. Maybe my age is starting to make me see the ugly side of the sport.

I am pretty sure im not the only one upset.

I rarely say this:

Deal with it.

It's sports. They make millions of dollars...It's been that way for years and it's not going to change. Is it "fair" to the average Joe? No. But what's Matt Ryan going to do? Apologize for the economic state of the country?

There's a saying: "There are two thing not worth getting upset over. Things you can't control and things you can." You can't control what any of these players make. So don't lose sleep over it. Just accept it. If it really bothers you, don't watch the games.

I agree and disagree with you. You got the "Real Hero's" deadnuts. You also got it right about families that are struggling to make ends meet while these kids have proved nothing and are getting bizarro money.....Its a shame really. Until they've stepped on the field and produced should they be getting paid........The only thing that I disagree with is it being a "kid's game"..... When I was a kid I didnt have 365 pound guys looking to knock my socks off. These players do risk alot.....injuries,health even maybe death..... They do have a talent and I guess if I had it Id want as much as my "AGENT" could get me because we have to remember that its not just the player.....Its the agents and the media and so on......but otherwise Fred it was well said.

You're completely right. Thugs like Chris Henry, Odell Thurman and Pacman Jones get rewarded millions of dollars in salary for their play on the football field but are complete assholes off it. Mario Manningham is probably the thug of this year's draft. He took marijuana and lied to every NFL team about it. He is in the same mold as the aforementioned 4.

I also agree and disagree. While I agree they are overpaid, I won't say they are not "deserving", any more than another skillset is deserving. There are CEO's, CFO's, VP's, etc. who make similar money, who probably don't work as hard, at least from a physical standpoint.

It's the good, and the bad, of which makes this country great, and the fact that we can bitch about it.

let me ask just one question.

Name a Player on the Falcons who has more pressure on them than Matt Ryan? No one.

He is not going to be judged on how well he plays but on how well the entire team plays. He is the franchise player and he has the orgaization on his back. Who on the falcons deserves more money than him.

I completely agree with you Fred Savage, this is getting way out of control.  getting 30 million to do a job is stupid.  Im gonna hire a waitress and give her 45 million a year to go wait tables  Pay them the same amount as all the other hard-working americans out there.

The only reason they should even  be paid a quarter of that is that they are risking injury, but thats it.

All your doing is giving them more money to bail them out of jail with.

I only agree that there should be a rookie salary cap.  These guys havent played a snap in the NFL and are getting paid more than most at their position.  There are only a handful of players at QB that make more than J Russell from last years draft and Ryan from this years draft.  I think Jake Long is now the highest paid O-lineman in NFL history and he hasnt played in a game yet.

I also disagree with this being a kids game.  Nobody pays $100-$1000 or more for a ticket to watch kids play football.  The major networks are paying well over a billion dollars a year to televise Pro football.  That isnt kid money.  I love both college and pro football however the price of a ticket has gotten way out of hand and has made it tough for the average guy to go see a game.  However, these salaries wouldnt keep going up if the fans stopped watching the games.  I know that comparing the NHL to the NFL is absurd but I will only to make a point.  The NHL tried to give its players huge contracts as well but didnt have the big t.v. contracts to back them up.  Next thing you know, the NHL goes on strike and now can be only seen on small cable channels such the Versus network.

The NFL isnt in the same danger unless it does something stupid like strike in two years and turn of the fans that pay these huge salaries.  Either way, unless the NFL caps rookies, these salaries will continue to go up as long as the NFL is a popular as it has been for the past couple decades.
