Welcome to the nightcap of a double header between the Atlanta Braves (23-21) and the New York Mets (22-20). Atlanta took the first game 6-1 behind a vintage performance by Tom Glavine and solid offensive production by Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann. The victory put the Braves in a virtual tie for second in the NL East with both New York and Philadelphia. All three teams are 1.5 games back of division leading Florida. The Braves look to continue their success at home in Turner Field, as the Braves hold the majors best home record at 17-5. The Mets will send Claudio Vargas to the hill while the Braves will throw Jorge Campillo out of the bullpen to make his second major league start.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Claudio Vargas - NYM - 0-1, 2.84 ERA, 6 K, 4 BB
Jorge Campillo - ATL - 0-0, 1.27 ERA, 17 K, 5 BB
Vargas was cut by Milwaukee in spring training, and picked up by the Mets. He made his first start against the Nationals last week, going 6.1 innings and giving 2 earned runs in a losing effort. Tonight will be his second start of the season.
Campillo made his first and only major league start for Seattle in 2005. He left the game with an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. Campillo has made 13 appearances out of the Braves bullpen, going 21.1 innings while only allow 3 earned runs. His last outing was three shutout innings in Philadelphia last week is a 5-0 Braves loss.
WARNING!
I will not have any showboating, cheering or celebration on this thread. Tonight is a different game than this afternoon. If you want to brag, post on the first thread. Sorry to be a nag, but despite my age (20) I'm kind of old school and very humble. And superstitious as I mentioned before (I'm that guy who never changes his socks during a winning streak). Maybe this comes from living outside of NYC for the last ten years or so, but just humor me, it's a karma thing.
All right, enough with the grumpy old man that lives inside me. Post you thoughts, observations, play-by-play, rants and what not. I'll be checking in during my night class and posting on the GameCenter Glog as usual. Also check out my blog.
LET'S GO BRAVES!!!
