1964 Phillies.  7.5 games in 7 days.

You tell me which one is worse.

And if you say the Mets collapse was worse, then you're a moron.  But thankfully for you, you won't be alone.

Well, aside from you having the wrong numbers for the '64 Phils' collapse, I think, this Phillies fan was 13 years from being born in 1964, so it doesn't really bother me at all -- some of my uncles were no doubt bothered by it. But I bet the '07 Mets' "7-game lead with 17 to go" collapse surely bothered you.

Yup, the "Phlop of '64" was a 6.5 game lead over the Reds with 12 to play.

I can't do this board anymore

"that's it you're outta the herd"

but on a serious note, you might want to duck certain threads

Too true.. But the Yankee problems are all on offense... So now with Arod back, the Yanks become that 970 run team they were last year...Or so that's what Yankee fans want to believe...Because as every fan knows, teams consistently do what they did last year, especially hitters.. And pitching overall in the American league, and especially in the AL East, has definitely NOT improved from last year.. Oh to be a Yankee fan and ignore reality..

Thanks for stereo typing me and all the other Yankees fans.

That's all Red Sox fans ever do

EMT why are you talking? The Mets havent won a world series since 86 it dont matter if the fighting phils have not won a playoffs game since 93 cause the only thing that matters in the playoffs is if you win the series.
LOL! Why am i talking? Because of idiots like axe-murder and people like you who make no sense what-so-ever.

First i bash the Phillies for not even winning 1 single playoff game for 15 years, despite them all trash talking about last year. Whoopdie doo. The mets collapsed, the Phillies took advantage of it and got embarrassed right out of the playoffs in 3 games.

Then you come on here and say the only thing that matters is if you win the series and the mets have won 4 series since the last time the Phillies won a single playoff game. So you make no sense.

Axe:

I hear what you're saying.  And believe me, while the Mets collapse last year was epic, if you lived through the late 70s/early 80s Mets like I did, or even the early 90s Mets, there's still a part of you that was glad to be in it in September even if they did choke.

A small part, yes, but a part nonetheless.  Minuscule, in fact, but it's there.

I did not mean that the Phillies lost that lead in the last 7 days.  According to various sources (I can't remember - I was 1), on September 20, 1964, the Phillies had a 6.5 game lead.  On September 27, they were a game back.  That's the 7.5 games in 7 days.

Either way they are both horrific no doubt.  I was undoubtedly exaggerating the difference in the particular phrases I chose, since intelligent minds could differ on which was worse.  I have to remember not to post after watching the Mets lose.  But suffice it to say that the Mets collapse last year wasn't the only time ever a team had lost a significant lead over a short period of time.

As a side note, since the Mets homer in me is coming out, 6.5 over 12 sounds worse than 7 over 17 to me.  The difference is 0.5 over 5.  That's not too hard to achieve.  I'll still give the Grand Prize to the 1964 Phillies.
