The Jets might contend for a wildcard this season. Are they a serious threat to take the division? Not a chance.

Regardless of any new additions or loses by both teams the Jets and the Pats always play great games and either team can win. It's Divisional rivalry that makes the games so good.

Yeah, I do like divisional games. It seems like no matter what the disparity may be in record and on paper, the outcome is usually a hard fought and close game. The teams are so familiar with each other's tendencies that they can uncover weaknesses that other teams may not. It seems like the past couple of years have seen the Pats make divisional matchups a little more one-sided though...

I do agree with you they did overpay for Damien Woody but he is an improvement over what we had in Anthony Clement, They probly overpaid for Calvin Pace but he's going to be a good player for them, fancea may be getting old but he's still got a good three years in him and he not only will upgrage LG but he will help D'brickahaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold become very good, Ghloston is gonna be a beast, and Dustin Keller is gonna be like a Tony Gonzalze eventually............ and as far as quaterback i think pennington can still play, but i think it will be Kellen Clemens people can't write him off after only starting a half a season....

I honestly don't see a ton of huge improvements, but I do see the small ones - and honestly, those are the ones that make the surprising differences when they work. The key being those last three words - when they work.
Alan Faneca is still a very good o-lineman, and it's possible he will improve the line's performance beyond where they have been. Calvin Pace shows promise, but they effectively traded him for Victor Hobson.
Projections for Dustin Keller look good, but I've learned not to believe in projections. I've seen too many of them, and too few of them turn out accurate.
Vernon Gholston is interesting. Before the combines, he was considered by many/most to be a mid-to-low-first-rounder. After the combines, he rose like a balloon. I'm not saying he will be a bust, or even that he'll be bad. I just think it could be interesting. He could be the steal at the #6 pick, or he could be a good long-term solid player, or a total bust. Honestly, I'm projecting him to be good, perhaps even very good. I'm not sure "great" will ever be attached to him - but we'll see, won't we? However, his long-term prospects notwithstanding, he'll be a rookie next year.
Eric Mangini has his work cut out for him. If the Jets don't show solid definitive improvement (and no, I don't mean they win 7 games), he'll be looking for a new job, in my opinion. The Jets spent a ton of money this offseason, throwing it around as if there was no salary cap this year, and all in the plan of going hardcore now. If they don't win quickly, they might not get another chance.

While they did improve I don't think they improved enough to contend with winning the East. Considering some of the improvements the Brown's made, I think that Pitt will take one wildcard spot and depending on who win's the South Indy or Jags the other wildcard will be one of them.
I still think the Jets are a few seasons away from being an actual contender.

The Jets need a QB. Until they get a reliable one they won't be a major threat. I think Mangini sold the farm this year, if he doesn't produce then I think he'll be all done. That will be more problems for them.
