Any thoughts on bringing Backman in as the coach? Couldn't hurt, could it?

How bout Phil Garner?  He did wonders for the Astros a couple years ago!  Even coached Carlos Beltran when he was an impossible out.  He gets my vote!

I'm thinking Ray Knight would be a good fit for the Mets.  He has managing experience, he's a former Met, AND he has the fiery personality that the Mets need as a manager.

That is a great candidate (Wally Backman) and im angry at myself for not thinking of him.  Hes a perfect candidate.  New Yorkers dont care about his background as long as he is passionate and wins.

New Yorkers probably don't care about Backman and his legal troubles, but I'm sure the Wilpons do. They're too vanilla to make a move like that. They won't go there.

I actually think that is a great idea. Maybe this team needs a old school type that will kick some butt when the team plays like this. What would of happened if bobby V was the manager when they screwed Delgado out of a home run in the yankee seris. I think Backman would be a great coach and what the hell i wont mind if he is our new manager.

I'd love Wally to be the manager, I wanted him here when they hired Willie. But I dunno if he's far enough removed from his personal problems to be a manager in MLB right now. I mean, the Diamondbacks fired him before he ever managed a game just 3+ years ago for a reason...

Honestly, I think this would be a GREAT move, very interesting post. Granted, he has a bit of a tarnished past with obvious flaws -- making him PERFECT for the Metropolitans, a franchise defined by such characteristics.

He is a "true" Met, always was a fan favorite, and in my opinion I thought he paid his dues and was punished too harshly by Arizona when finally getting the nod. Give Wally the nod ... great stuff, can't believe I never thought of him for this spot.
