What does everyone think of Hank Blalock volunteering to play first base?

I like the idea of having someone like Hank that can actually hit the ball.  He will be quite the upgrade from Broussard, Shelton, and Cat.  I just hope he can play adequate defense there.

Who do the Rangers send to the minors or release when Hank comes off the disabled list?

I really hope there is a trade in the works to get rid of Marlon Byrd or Frank Catalanotto or Chris Shelton.  I am guessing that Shelton will be released, and Byrd and Cat get to fight for a few at bats.  No pun intended.

I like the move...but what I like even more is that it was Blaylock's idea and he volunteered to move there. 1st base is a less demanding position defensivly. We need Blaylock to play so hopfully he can keep from hurting himself at 1st. He is still a great hitter and is still in his 20's. Not to mention Ramon Vasquez is tearing it up and Brandon Boggs impressed early. I hope he can regain his torrid streak from earlier in the year and take over 3rd base full time.

I don't think it's a huge deal, but I would  rather see Blalock/Catalanato than Blalock/Volquez, especially keeping a better than average fielding Blalock at third.  Cat is just a better hitter than Volquez(over career), plus you take Volquez out of the utility position where he has been so valuable.  Cat at 1st is better than weakening two positions defensively.

I would have never signed Broussard to begin with, but once I did I would have let him platoon with Shelton and keep the job longer than 50 at bats.  He has been in the league 6 years, he has always been streaky and has always been a platooon player.  He hits 270 and hits 15 homers every year. They arn't a great platoon team, but they could of combined for a 260 avg. and 20-25  homers.  For some reason Wash was convinced that Broussard could play every day, then they panicked and dropped him totally.

Hank needs to go back to 3rd, that in my opinion is the hardest position over than cather on the field. Anybody can play first that is why all the fat out of shape hitters play there. Hank

is a glod glove 3rd baseman and let vazquez play 1st. We need vazquez to be in the lineup everyday and he can allow the infield to rest by playing every position. You are wasting your time with hank playing first he has to much defensive talent to play first base.

I agree with most of the posts here.  Get Hank back to 3rd and use that glove of his.  1st base is where you hide a defensive project like Jim Thome or Frank Thomas.  I think the Rangers could easily go get someone that can hit and play first base.  I wouldn't mind seeing someone like A. Boone play first base for us.  I know he is old and a little washed up, but when healthy he is a huge upgrade.  He can hit for a little power, steal a base or two and he is a good defesive player.  just a thought.

Neither Broussard or Shelton have been the answer at 1B.  Blalock moving there could keep him in the lineup more and that would be a good thing.  Volquez has been tearing the cover off the ball lately and has performed well with Blalock out and has earned more time at 3rd.  1B has been the void position the whole season.  Shelton has strung together a couple of good games but in the long run I think a monster 1B is needed.  Can Blalock be that monster?  If he hits like the 2005 Blalock yes he can.  Anything short of that and he is just a nice temp until our monster 1B comes along.  Is Davis that monster?  Only time will tell.  All in all it is nice to have versitility on the team.  I am all for that.
