5 for 5 for getting on base. A stolen base, a deep deep double, a couple of singles, a great eye with two walks but lets slow it down a bit. Let's not annoint him king of the world just yet. Do I think this kid is a total stud? Yes. Do I think he is poised to be a bat in the middle of the Reds lineup for quite some time? Of course. But lets keep things in perspective. It was a stellar debut, against Ian Snell at our place. Let's enjoy the fact he is finally here. Let's enjoy this outstanding night one, and not get crazy. I think the kid can do it and will, but lets not set ourselves up for disaster here.

LONG LIVE THE KID THOUGH!!! Take a bow. What a debut.

I will naturally withhold all sorts of parade music for the moment, thankful the guy can at least get on base a couple of times.

What bewilders me is that we were all told all spring that the guy was not a center fielder. Apparently, somebody changed their mind about that.

Of course, those 0-for-18 batting averages will help.

Right, Dusty?

Hey, let's let Corey go play in traffic.

I think someone higher up than Dusty changed his mind for him!

Didn't Dusty complain about Bruce's "toughness" in the spring? Maybe someone with a better memory than mine can remember the particulars, but I think Bruce had a slight muscle strain and Dusty questioned his willingness to play hurt. It wasn't Bruce that should have been sent down to the minors; it was our "manager"!

Ah, it is my memory! Baker's remarks weren't as bad as I "remembered" them! Had to go look it up!

3/2/08 report on the Reds:

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Jay Bruce and Dusty Baker are back on the same page about the outfielder's history of leg injuries -- or the lack thereof.

Bruce hasn't played since Sunday when he suffered a mild strain of his left quadriceps muscle. On Monday, Baker indicated concern because he thought it was a recurring problem for the top prospect.

"One thing makes me a little wary is he's had this a couple of times," Baker said Monday.

By Tuesday, Baker was given a more accurate report from Bruce.

"He was under the impression I had missed a lot of time with it," Bruce said. "He can only go by what he was told. I'm glad he came up to me and talked to me about it, and let me have a chance to clear it up."

Bruce had a minor hamstring issues last season, but hasn't had any problems with his quadriceps.

"I missed three games with it last year, and it wasn't anything major," Bruce said. "I didn't play in the World Cup out of precautionary reasons. This is my first real quad injury ever, and I wouldn't even consider it an injury. It's just a little sore and tight. It's not a big deal at all."

"I'm learning and some people said this and some people said something else," Baker said after Tuesday's game. "I wanted to hear it right from him."

I just had it in my head it was nastier than it was...that, or this isn't the story I was thinking of! Comes with being senile!!!

I hate to say this (seeing how I have Bruce on my fantasy team) but I give it one week, or Bruce’s first 0 for 4 before Baker starts rotating him in CF with Patterson.

Walt and Castellini will never let it happen.  I see Paterson getting playing time like Hatteberg was the rest of the season.

When does Norris Hopper get back? They better send Pattershit packing when he does. I don't care if it's to another team or Louisville. As long as he's out of Cincinnati.
