Wasn't it about 10 years ago that everyone was talking about how Serena and/or her sister were going to be the greatest tennis players of all time??
Well 10 years, an over-sized wiliams family ego, and a bunch of whiney excuses, it appears it was just another example of american media overhyping some of their great tennis athletes
such a dissapointment they were so dominant at one point.

You're right. Serena was very dominant in tennis at one time. As a matter of fact, she was one of a few tennis players to have all Grand Slam titles at one time. she has at least 10 grand slam victories and an infinite number of singles titles. Not to mention a gold medal or two. You're right! Let's bash Serena and her sister Venus for having great tennis careers, gold medals, grand slams, both single and double, and several ATP titles under their belts! Get a life people! Some of the greatest tennis players in the world like Andy Roddick, or even Rafel Nadal, have the titles these two women have.
Hell, even Anna Kornukova didn't come under this much scrutiny!

False. No way was Serena overhyped. All she lacked was an Evert/Navratilova/Sampras/Federer-l ike desire to be No. 1. She wanted to win everything she entered in, but never seemed to want to put in the work necessary. Yet despite that, as the previous poster has stated, she's pretty much accomplished all there is to accomplish in tennis. In her prime, no one could beat her, she was just too powerful and fast; a superior athlete to all the other female players.

I'm a tennis follower, and somewhat of a fan of the WTA. But definitely a much greater fan of the ATP. But anyways I just wanted to correct you on her number of [singles] Slams, since those are what really counts. She has 8 Slams, and also her infinite number of [singles] titles is 31, including her Slams. Lastly, as for her "gold medal or 2". She has 1 doubles gold medal won in 2000.
FYI, her big sister won the singles gold medal in 2000, obviously along with a doubles medal.

The problem that I have with the Williams sisters (especially Serena) is the same problem I always had with Shaq in basketball - all the natural athleticism in the world and zero work ethic. I am not impressed by the fact that they have freakish genes. That came from their parents, but what have they done with that talent? Serena has won on athleticism alone, which just goes to show what she could have done if she actually cared and was willing to work. She had the potential to be the best of all time, and instead she will end up being known simply as a very good player. While it may be unfair to say so, that is underachieving.
Add to that the fact that she and her family have demonstrated a lack of class on multiple occasions, and you can say that I am not a fan.
Physically speaking, she is essentially a man playing women's tennis. She is bigger, stronger and faster than the other players, so for her to do anything other than consistently dominate the competition has to be seen as a failure.
