We should have been talking about him getting #600 a few years ago.isn't this exactly what was quoted in the article? That there seems to be a sense of "what could have been" when it comes to Cincinnati fans? You just confirmed it, so why wank about the article when it was right?

good call, sunship. Add to the fact that fans don't get too excited over decent fielding middle infielders with no power or speed. Hell, I think I just defined the second coming of Jose Vidro.......

jimmydac....give me a frickin break. I never said I don't appreciate Griffey, as I've said before. But why celebrate something that's not happening yet?! He had 398 homers as a Mariner. He should have had #600 a few years ago.
On the comparison of Rose and Griffey...you're talking about Rose like he robbed a bank. I seriously doubt that as much as he won, that he ever bet against the Reds. I don't condone what Pete did as far as the gambling is concerned. But as a baseball fan, I appreciate how he played the game. And you should too. He sacrificed his body just as much, probably more than Griffey, but he didn't come up lame for five or six straight seasons. I'm not blaming Griffey for his contract, I just don't pity him for lack of press. Once he hits it, then we can celebrate his great career in Seattle and what little he did for the Reds.

Hoosier-
As a Reds fan, shouldn't you just be happy that people are talking about your team. If not for the play of Bruce over the last few days or Griffey's chase, I am not sure Sportscenter would even show your highlights. Be proud of something good coming out of Cincinnati, instead of stories about a racist former owner, disgraced legend, or idiot current manager.

tmfuller, there is a lot of good coming out of Cincinnati, but Griffey's not the main headline because guys like Votto, Bruce, Volquez, and Phillips have a chance to get the team to win. Griffey's 600 homeruns isn't going to get the team anything. So far tonight, Jay Bruce - two hits off a future Hall of Famer, Jr.- an inning killing double play and an inning ending groudout to second. yea! Gee, I just can't see why I'm not excited over a milestone that is two months away.

Jay Bruce 3 for 3 two 1B, one 2B, RBI
Ken Griffey, Jr. 0 for 3.
That's why there's more hype about Bruce right now than Griffey. I will say on a positive note, Griffey's last grounder to second helped put the runner at third so that BP could get him home.

Probably won't even be mentioned anywhere other than Cincinnati or Atlanta. May not even get his stat scrolled down on the bottome line on ESPN. But, everyone's going to know that Joba Chamberlain threw in the bullpen, wiped with Charmin today, and took a 20 minute nap before the game.
