The 2007-2008 season has already proved the baby boilers can play. Hummel and Moore's presence was just enough to get them where they needed to be. Johnson will follow in as he gets some more time in the weight room. With Martin not getting a whole lot of minutes in his freshmen season, it showed Purdue had some leaniancy beyond it's starters. Deciding to transfer was better for his career and South Bend is just as far from Valparaiso as Lafayette is. Painter's bench is deep just enough that his absence won't be missed a whole lot. Notre Dame has gotten a gem though. Scott Martin's talent has not yet been shown or put to use as much as it can be. Him, Harangody(if he stays his senior season) and lil Hansbrough will make a great white power-three presence in the 2009-2010 season!

I now have no respect for Scott Martin! Like you said, South Bend is just as far away form valpo as we are! He said his reason was that he was home sick and missed his girlfriend!!!    What a BITCH!   just come out and say you wanted more playing time! instead of making up lies about why your really leaving! I hope we play Notre Dame in that season!!!
I'm glad martin is gone! he took too many bad shots, and didnt play very good defense!

Not only did he screw up Purdue think about how much he screwed up Valpo University.  That is pathetic and insane to be making up excuses like that.  He was supposed to be the star, so they brought Robbie Hummel along to make him feel more comfortable(sources tell me).  Now that Hummel became the star and will be great for 3 more years, Martin couldn't take it and that is what i very strongly believe is why he left so quickly.

I've heard about him wanting to go somewhere closer for his girlfriend, but if that was the reason, he sure didn't do a good job on getting closer to her. That is, unless she moved to South Bend!

It is true that Martin was a highly ranked recruit, that is, compared to Hummel. Hummel, on the other hand, Painter and his HS coach have both said that he looks too much for passes and should shoot more. I really do think that the reason he was all conference and a Wooden Award candidate was because people know this kid is worth more than a mere 11 ppg! Him and Moore will be the best scoring duo in the conference, no doubt about that. I do think that Martin's transfer was kind of pointless. Whether it was his girlfriend or just didn't like Purdue. Him and Hummel played together since they were like 5! So him leaving Hummel, there must of been something else.

Honestly I dont see him getting more play time at ND than he would at Purdue.  In my opinion he didn't move up or down (which would make sense wanting either more play time or a better chance at trophies), he moved laterally to a fairly equal program.  Not only equal in the teams abilities but also in distance from his home town.  Oh well I hope he gets sick of his new coach before he even steps onto the court in '09.
