I have never been one to enjoy Mayweather's outsinde the ring's antics, but I have had some regard for his in ring skills. I don't think he is tired of fighting because that is what puts him in his favorite position---out front. De La Hoya doesn't frighten him..
The real reason Mayweather is 'retiring' is Miguel Cotto. Have you seen this young man fight? He fights like a tiger waiting to pounce. When he delivers a blow, it doesn't just hurt, it destroys. He has knocked out opponents with body blows. I am not exactly sure of the number, but I believe that 4 of his last 9 opponents have been unable to return to the ring. He is fast, has a very solid fighting stance and terrific defense and he delivers blows with a full bodied presence.
If Mayweather ever does fight Cotto, that will end his reign as an unbeaten, in my humble opinion.

COTTO is good, but you cant say he'll beat mayweather! Mayweather is the man and even though he unexpectedly retired......assumptions dont mean a thing!

Then why won't Mayweather talk about him? Mention his name? He is scared, in my opinion. Not just my opinion, it's the opinion of many. Or maybe he is waiting for the winner of Cotto-De La Hoya, after Cotto wins his next fight which I think is July 26. Mayweather has declared retirement 3 times, so I don't quite believe it this time either.
And you can't say Mayweather will beat Cotto.

Cotto is a helluva fighter without doubt. However, don't jinx yourself. Margarito is also tough. Cotto has got to be careful in this fight. He should not want to mix it up with Margarito. He should outbox him because Margarito has got a boulder of a chin. But, if Cotto goes to his body or does what Paul Williams did to Margarito, Cotto will win on points. Yes, Cotto takes a helluva punch, but this guy hits like a train. This is no Acelino Freitas of the heavier weights. As hard as Acelino Freitas used to hit, he had no boxing skills, no chin, and no heart. In fact, I thought Cassamayor beat Freitas. Margarito has boxing skills, a boulder of a chin, and a lot of heart. I would never count Margarito out.
Hopefully, Cotto will do what DLH couldn't do which is be a real Latino fighter that is more concerned about fighting hard and becoming the real Latino icon. I really like Cotto and I like Margarito as well. I just wish that Mayweather had fought Margarito or Cotto because I think he can beat either one. He is just too chicken to fight either one because he feels that either one can beat him and Mayweather knows that.

First of all, Cotto is a fraud.
Just like Bernard Hopkins exposed hard hitting glass jawed Tito Trinidad, Floyd Mayweather would do the same to Cotto with one exception. He won't knock him out, he'll only make him look bad. I have yet to see Cotto take a good punch that didn't knock him down and disorient him. A real fighter would finish him, which is why Cotto is even less impressive if you really look at his last few fights. He's been rocked by bums that have no business in the ring with him.
We're witnessing the absolute worst era in boxing. There have been so many so called champions who have benefitted from the lack of competition. Tyson, as feared as he was, fought a bunch of bums. Any decent fighter that faced him without fear beat him and it took Buster Douglas to expose him. Toss in Vladimir Klitchko, Lennox Lewis, Trinidad, Roy Jones and you've got a bunch of flashy guys with subpar opponents.
Margarito, on the other hand, would cause Floyd Mayweather fits because he has boxing skill and a great chin. Floyd could probably beat both, but not without feeling some pain and with $75 million in the bank, why suffer the pain?
I hope Margarito gets a chance to fight Cotto because he will expose him for sure.

I think you are underestimating Cotto. Cotto has great punching and boxing skills. Cotto is not Tito. I am not saying Cotto will have an easy time with Margarito. But, I think Cotto can beat Margarito on points which is how Cotto will have to win. He will have to look at the Paul Williams fight and see what he must do to beat Margarito.

Vacant--Margarito and Cotto fight each other this summer....July 26th I believe. I like Margarito, but Cotto is to me the superior fighter in this one. Margarito has a lot of ring savvy, no doubt, but Cotto is just too much of a bull for him. Cotto fights low to the ground with a lot of his weight centralized. It will be tough for any fighter to get him off balance. Margarito hasn't shown the power needed to do that. Cotto either wins by KO or on points. Then, De La Hoya would be the next reasonable bout.
