Even after, Detroit took home the cup, I keep hearing all this talk about how Crosby is the next Gretzky and how great he is and blah blah blah. Look, Sid is a great player, but Gretzky was never taken out of a series like Crosby was. All this and people still dont know who Henrik Zetterberg is. This guy is a friggin stud! Him and Datsyuk are the best tandom the league has to offer as far as complete players! Sure Malkin and Crosby can score, but look how far that got them in the Stanley Cup Finals!! We all know that defense, not offnese wins championships and until Sid and Geno learn to do that, the only cup they'll be seeing any time soon will be the one that they put in their jock straps before game time!! Dont be surprised to see Detroit hoisting the cup again in '09!!!

Actually jrich, Gretzky's first stanley cup was a losing effort, which in comparison, Crosby's first Stanley Cup was a better performance than the Great One's....so you might want to re-think your argument.

Yes, what are you talking about? Gretzky was never taken out of a series? When are you talking about? Sid is 20 years old! He is more successful now than Gretzky was at the same age. You need to open your eyes to what this kid has accomplished at such a young age. He wins the scoring title and MVP at age 19? That is unheard of in any sport. Sid is good now, but he has the chance to be great. Zetterberg is a solid all around player but he does not have what it takes to be great. That is not a knock, few ever have it. There are alot of good players, but very few great ones.

I agree with what you say about Crosby and his potential, but I can't believe your opinion of Zetterberg. Any player who excels at a defensive game like him and still puts up huge offensive production is a superstar. He doesn't get enough credit for what he does, but hopefully after the attention he gets from his cup win and conn smythe he might get a little bit more respect. I think the biggest reason he isn't more of a star at this point is because he is a European player. If he were from Canada the media would be eating him up. I hate the Wings but you can't knock Zetterberg.

Gretzky's ROOKIE year he tied for the scoring title and started his career with 8 straight MVP's. Neither of them won MVP. Gretzky because he was in the WHL for a year beforehand and Crosby because Ovechkin was better (123 out of 129 first place votes if I remember correctly) You can say all you want about how good Crosby is. If Im starting a team right now the #1 guy I want is Ovechkin, #2 is Iginla, #3 is Zetterberg, Crosby can score as much as he wants, he doesn't do as much to help his team win as these guys. They play physical, they're tough, they don't cry everytime a call isn't made in their favor, and they're just more fun to watch. And I can still tell you a bunch of other guys I'd rather have over Crosby

Gretzky and Crosby aren't on the same level. There was no one you'd rather have on your team then Gretzky. He made Messier better, he made Kurri better, he made Coffey better, he made them all better. I can think of a bunch of guys who I think do more to make their team win then Crosby
1-Ovechkin
2-Iginla
3-Zetterberg
Crosby maybe be a better scorer than these guys (except Ovechkin) but look at their defencive pplay compared to his, and all these guys are overall more well rounded players and I'd take any of them over Crosby, hands down

my first one didn't post right away so I posted another, but I meant that neither Crosby or Gretzky won ROY their first year, not MVP, because Gretzky was MVP
