I don't agree with you often, but you have a good point. Clearly KG and Pierce were off last night. But before you point the finger too hard, you really can't blame Doc for thinking that they'd shoot their way out of their troubles. Maybe you could blame him for not getting the point across to them, especially Pierce "Go to the basket- good things always happens when you slash, Paul".
I for one thought they'd come around, whihc is why I won't come down hard on Rivers. On the other hand, the Lakers shouldn't be feeling any better about themselves than the Celtics- they only won by six with such miniscule production from these two.

Garnett and Pierce will do better next game. I know I have a biased opinion but, am i the only one who thinks Odom is garbage, Gasol is still soft, Kobe is Kobe, Garnett and Pierce had their worst games and The Lakers played the best they could possibly play against the Celtics besides a few missed free throws and only won by 6? I posted in earlier posts Celtics in 5 and I stand by my prediction. Oh how I wish we had someone to drive the ball inside and get some fouls (Rondo)!!!!

No, in fact, witout Andrew Bynum, most of the Lakers front court is garbage on the defensive end. Which is why it's so damned frustrating to watch Kevin Garnett, one of the best power forwards to ever play in the NBA, spot up for 20-foot jump shots instead of pounding his muscular self into the paint on that garbage front court and beating them for easier shots or passing to the open man when the Laker double on him, all the while drawing contact fouls. Heck, why didn't Doc Rivers bring in Leow Powe more often in Game 3? He certainly seemed to LOVE pounding the paint on Sunday.
If the Celtics are going to be insistent on trying to match jumper for jumper with the Lakers, they're playing into the Lakers' strength - they have a bunch of jump shooters. But the C's have the inside advantage on both ends of the floor, and they should be using it.

I'm not only mystified by Garnett's game last night, but in general lately. He has been shooting a LOT OF 20-22 ft shots when his best range is 12-18 feet. I understand when the shot clock is running down and he needs to get up a shot, but he also needs to spend some more time on the block; what are the Celtics afraid of, Pau Gasol in the middle??

Thank god for Doc Rivers. This series would be over without him. I hate to admit that the Celt's will win, though. With Gasol doing his Euro finger rolls and Odom driving like a drunk indian on payday into the lane the Lakers are a 1 man show. Next year with Bynum things will be different but the idea of a "Big 3" of the Lakers has been disproven.

You are right on Greg, as you were yesterday calling Vic the Brick an idiot on AM 570, I hate those Laker homers!

Absolutely right on Greg. Another point about coaches. In conjunction with the trade maneuver, Ainge had been getting additional kudos (in hindsight) for sticking with Doc Rivers, but the coaching job gets a lot easier when you have talented players ... just ask Phil Jackson, who happens to have been blessed with talented players through much of his coaching career. Both may be great coaches, but until they can take a more ordinary franchise and build it, motivate the players, and make enough timely game winning coaching decisions, the jury is still out.
