When I first read this I had a one word response...."DUMB!"  Then I began to think that maybe he is concerned with his attention being taken away with the other "bigs" we have coming in next season.  I believe we have two other 6'9" or 6'10" guys coming in next season (their names escape me now).  Maybe he thinks he wont be as valuable this time next season.  Would have loved to have him around next season...oh well.  Lets see which NBA team takes him.

The guy didn't work hard in college, I find it hard to believe htat he's going to work in the NBA.  I think he is going to really disappoint some team.  It's a shame though, I don't think an extra year in college would have helped his work ethic.... maybe his draft position, but that's about it.

This is a huge blow to us. Now, our most experienced player is Dan Werner. Yeah, that's bad. I agree that Speights will be a non existent force in the NBA.  He'll probably be cut in less than 3 years and barely play at all. He was a good college player but I dont think anyone forsees him doing well in the NBA. Our incoming big freshman may be good, but their inexperience will show early. Tennessee Fans should be loving this annoucement. I don't know how we'll compete with them now.

Cheers to Rebuilding!

Speights will be a career backup, he is too soft to do any damage in the NBA. It's just like when the guards left early (Anthony Roberson and Matt Walsh) the Gators got better and they never did anything. This year with the New bigs coming in and Speights leaving it will be Great for Gator Nation. :-) GO GATORS !!!!

not only am i a gator die-hard i have watch speights since he was 10 y'/o while he grew up in st.pete and let me tell you this...................a career back-up is a stretch, this guy most certainly could have used at least 1 more year of seasoning and not certain even that would have helped........he'll be oversea's in less then 2 years
