I'm a huge fan of Willie McGee and thought he should of already had his number retired by the Cardinals. He was unbelieveable when he burst onto the scene in '82. Rookie of the Year. Numerous home run robbin' catches. I'm not for sure, but I think his lifetime average was around .300. I can almost guarantee that no true Cardinal fan would balk at his number being retired.

Go Cards.

I voted no, I know I know I love Willie McGee too I just take a look at the names up there and I just don't see him fitting in with those guys, I mean is there one up there that isn't a hall of famer.  Willie was a fantastic Cardinal but hall of famer, no.  Maybe if he had been a Cardinal his whole career though.

They sell some cool shirts up by MIke Shannon's that are a retire McGee's number campaign.  Last time we were down there my buddy that is a cards fan bought one after the game.  I told him that even as a Cubs fan I would wear thae shirt.  I agree with Akbled that it probally wont happen since he is not in the HOF but he was defiantly a fan favorite.

Willie McGee was a great ballplayer for MLB and an even better one for the Cardinals and this city. I believe they should definitely give him that honor. The only think that makes me second guess is picturing the retired numbers at the park and realizing that as good as Willie was, he doesn't exactly measure up.

I voted yes just because Willie and the wizard are two of my all time favorite cards.

Should the Cards retire his number? Yes Will the Cardinals retire his number? No, at least not until he is voted into the Hall of Fame which will not happen unless he gets put in by the veterans committee. That has been the policy of the Cardinals and that is why you don't McGee's 51 or McGwire's 25 on the the left field wall. However, looking at McGee, you have a former NL MVP (1985), a 2 time batting champion (1985 and 1990) and in 1990 became the first and only pla
