It looks like Brett Rogers (Pictures) will get his wish.

EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw told Sherdog.com on Friday that a heavyweight tilt between Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson and burgeoning nemesis Rogers is a likelihood for October.

"Kimbo says he wants Rogers. Rogers says he wants Kimbo. If that's what they want, we'll make it happen," said Shaw.

Rogers, also victorious during EliteXC's "Primetime" live CBS telecast on May 31, confronted "Slice" during a post-fight press conference, describing the headliner's third-round TKO of James Thompson (Pictures) as "garbage."

Rogers, 27, dispatched local draw Jon Murphy (Pictures) in a minute and one second at the Prudential Center event in Newark, New Jersey. A tire repairman from Minneapolis, Minn., Rogers recently left his day job to train full time.

Shaw was uncertain if October's proposed event would be telecast on CBS. A venue has not been selected yet.

"Slice" first announced the potential bout on Thursday during a radio interview with The Dan Le Batard Show on Sports Talk 790 AM "The Ticket."

"His corner needs to tell him there's ways to do things, and this just isn't the way to do it. Now it's personal," Ferguson told Le Batard. "But I guess they did their part. They called me out and got the fight."

Ferguson, 34, said his bout with Thompson will force him to focus on his ground game more, as future opponents will try and expose him on the mats.

"I'm going to change up my training from this fight on. It's going to be ground, ground, ground," said the feared brawler famous for his legendary Internet backyard battles.

Ferguson noted that the sabbatical till October will allow him time to heal both his thumbs, which were injured in the bout.

Do you see a loss for Kimbo in tis fight???

Sure a loss is possible.  Rogers looked sharp in his knockout, but it was against a bum.  Kimbo looked like a bum.  All the Kimbo haters will jump on and say that Kimbo doesnt have as shot, which may or may not be true, but Kimbo only needs to land one solid shot and its over.  Im not a Kimbo hater or lover, I just want to see good fights, and fights that dont shine a negative light on MMA as a whole (see Elite XC's disaster on CBS). I do think its a step in the right direction however, putting Slice against someone the public has seen, and for the most part was impressed with.  So we shall see....

Loss. Win.  Does it matter?  I can see fat drunk guys fighting at Wrigley field that are more entertaining than a Kimbo fight...

Rogers will fight the style Kimbo likes.  He'll try to stand with Kimbo and knock him out.  I don't think that is a good game plan, though.  Kimbo can beat him.  He'll have trouble with the fighter who takes him down like Thompson did.  Bigfoot Silva would destroy Kimbo, but I don't think you'll see that fight any time soon.  Elite XC has got to protect Kimbo as long as possible to get their investment from him.  If he beats Rogers, it'll be another tomato can he fights next.

If Kimbo was 24 I'd be excited about him.   As it is now, I think Kimbo is an over the hill fighter that has no time to learn real MMA.  His ground game sucks and trust me he will lose this next fight.

Sweet.  Kimbo is gonna train nothing but ground game for 4 whole months.  He might actually learn how to bridge and try and escape.  He'll probably know more subs than Nogs, Fedor, and Mir combined.

Then again, maybe not.

He might not lose to this guy (which by the way, what a surprise he's fighting the guy that CBS scripted a post fight "confrontation" with) but he will lose to the first legitimate heavyweight he faces, if and when that ever happens.
