Just because ownership changes, you think that the team venue will also change?

The team currently has about 20 more years on its lease to an arena that was built for ice hockey (in Florida).  So, I don't think they are going to let the Lightning out of that lease anytime soon.

Attendance at the Forum has been about 95.6%.  Is that good enough?

I'd say that Tampa supports its hockey team.  I'd also say that it doesn't appear that the ownership change was structured to facilitate moving the team to another location.

I was hoping that KC got Pittsburghs Penguins

That way the Wings could move to the east where they belong.  I don't think the NHL wants that to happen though, or Chicago would be all alone in the west.

I know KC has a new arena waiting for an NHL team...    It'll happen, but I don't think this is the time.

I don't know anything about the rest of the group, but I do know about Len Barrie (technically, he's my boss). I think he bought into the Lightning because he wanted to own part of a team and they happened to be available. I don't think he is the kind of guy who thinks of this as simply an investment. I'd expect that he will want to be involved with the organization. Also, he lives in Canada on the west coast, which is a long way away from Tampa Bay. These factors point to him possibly being interested in moving the team.

My personal opinion is that the Lightning will be in Tampa at least for a while, but if the owners have an excuse to leave, they'll take it. He could turn out to be a somewhat less aggressive Jim Balsillie.

Too bad Seattle doesn't have a new arena. They could use a team since the sonics will be gone soon.

At this point moving the Lightning would be like moving the Red Wings or the Maple Leafs. Probably not going to happen. Tampa averaged about 18,000 to watch an abysmal team, so I would call that good support. Maybe the NHL will expand again when the cycle of popularity comes back around to hockey.

I don't think there is any chance - I moved a couple fo years ago but lived nearby and the St. Pete Times Forum is downtown so the crowds were always pretty strong.  Believe it or not I think Tampa supports hockey.  That being said I moved in early 2006 and was there for the Stanley Cup - not exactly a long time study...
