Other than Jokinen askong for a trade, I don't see much of a reason for doing this. I don't know about the guys they picked up, but by trading Jokinen, the Panthers have lost what they had over every other South Florida franchise, and that's a franchise player. Without going back into the whole ordeal (I'm sick of raving about it by now), I have to just say that no club can really expect it's fans to be as enthusiastic about their team as any other without giving them a player to watch and know. Sure, there are plenty of other players on the roster, but when you think of the Panthers, who was the first current player that popped into your head? If my player inquired about being traded, then I'd do my best to suit his needs, as a happy player is the only type of player that I'd want. But, there must have been some way of going about things without losing him, especially for what they got.

I'm not sure what they're going to do with that second-round pick, but with the changing of the coaching, and the loss of their former Captain (and he was so for good reason), I'm not sure how this previously playoff hopeful team is thinking that they're improving. I don't see it, but then again, I may just not be thinking hard enough. This is more a spur of the moment post, done in outrage. Still, I don't think that a clear head and a world of time to ponder the subject would yield much different thoughts. I've always been a very positive guy, and I will forever hang my Panthers banners from my walls, but I'm upset to see this happen.

Here's to a great season, Florida. I guess that the logic of "the coaches know more than the fans" comes into play here, and with the best of intentions, I whole-heartedly believe that. It's time for a playoff season, and I think we can get there. So, hang in there, South Florida, and let's be sure to fill that stadium up each and every night!

Go Panthers!

I think your concerns are warranted.  Strange move.  Boynton used to play in Beantown, he showed promise but not much more.

No Jokinen = no playoffs

With Jokinen gone and nobody with his talent to replace him at that position, I'm afraid things are going to get worse in Pantherland before they get better.  Raising ticket prices and then dumping your best, most popular player is likely to turn more fans away.  It's a shame.

Hey buddy Jokinen  is no where near Lecavlier talent  wise so you might want to re think the franchise tag.

Joki isn't Vinny but to the Panthers he's their vinny... And they just dealt him. I dont get this one bit. This is retarded, and I'm sure the Panthers' fans will revolt! Or they should anyhow.

Actually, in their team forums, they called this trade "worse than Luongo" and duped it "lui2"

But you're right, of all the trade packages teams has offered for Olli, why this one?

Boynton is a tough defensemen. He is a great checker. I am sad to see him leave the Coyotes. Ballard is a really good defensemen. He isn't a huge scorer, but has a nice shot. He is very fast. Sadly I will miss them both in phoenix, but I will cheer for Jokinen. I can comiserate as a Bruins fan living in Phoenix, now instead of seeing Joe Thornton once a year I get to see him like 4 or five.

it could go either way
