Who else here thinks this guy did not get a fair shot? I mean, how would this feel, "Pete, you will get to coach one game, but its against the Spurs in San Antonio." Well, talk about setting someone up to fail. That like saying to the manager of the Royals "ok, you can manage one game, but its vs the Red Sox at Fenway vs Beckett". I think he could have done better than Boylan becasue he had fire.
I think he'll get a chance to coach eventually. It may not be with the Bulls. I think he has more bench experience than Vinny but the Bulls are looking to play and up tempo style of ball this season. That is why we settled from Coach V after missing out on D'Antoni. I think Vinny will be fine because he's starting witha talented team much like Phil did.
I think you are correct, in saying that Myers did not get a fair shot. The only things is he does not have much head coaching experience, but Vinny does not either. I think Myers knew that it was not his time and just would like to get enough experience as an assistant. He will have his day, if that is what he wants.
For the Record, Myers is 1-1 against the Spurs. I think when Cartwright got let go, Myers coached a game against the Spurs. The Bulls won that game. I know the announcers were talking about it.
There is no shame in being a career assistant. There are skills, outside of teaching and leading, that a HC has to possess. None of us are so close to the situation to say that even Pete Meyers feels that he has those skills. I could not rightfully say he has been treated unfairly or fairly.
But, ask this: What short list has he been on for a HC job? How many interviews?
The league is a closed fraternity. GMs talk up good assistants. If Pete had risen to HC material, he would be getting sniffs. Otherwise, let Pete Meyers worry whether he is retained as an assistant for Vinny Del Negro. That is the job he has a contract for.
