I think Rose will be a good player, but I think the Bulls will regret not taking Beasley. Rose is slightly overrated because of his NCAA Tournament showing. Before that his averages of 15 points and 4.5 assists were not that impressive. He struggled against good competition. Check his game logs. He is no Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Paul averaged 15 points and 6.5 assists at Wake Forrest. Williams averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 assists at Illinois. Rose can score, but he is not an elite passer, so he won't be a true elite point guard.
Beasley had better numbers than Kevin Durant. He's a little goofy, but he's the better ball player.

You do realise that Paul was a Soph and Williams was a Junior right? Also, Memphsis' DDM offence doesn't lead to many assists.
But perhaps the MOST important reason to take Rose is because Freeman says not to.

Yes, but a guy like Jared Jordan out of Marist averaged 17.2 pts and 8.7 apg in college while a guy like Baron Davis never averaged more than five assists in his collegiate career. The point is, statistics don't always tell the whole story. Parrish's point is that Rose presents the physical tools to be dominant at his position, and I tend to agree with him. Rose also showed the ability to raise his game at the top level such as in the NCAA tournament. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I know he physically dominated his competition in the tourney and that competition included supposed defensive stalwarts Russell Westbrook (a surefire lottery pick), Darren Collison from UCLA and another potential lottery pick D.J Augustin out of Texas.

We must be looking at different game logs because it looks to me as if when Rose played against higher competition, his game elevated as his team needed him more. Examples: Oklahoma game: 17 pts, 5 REB, 3A, 2 STL. UCONN game: 24 PTS 6 REB. Cincinati game: 26 PTS, 6 A, 4 REB, G-Town game:18 Pts, 6 A, 3 REB. Gonzaga game: 19 pts, 9 A, 8 REB. Tennessee game: 23 PTS, 5 REb, 5 A. He did all of this as a freshman and chris paul and williams did it when they were older. Rose, if you watched their games and listen to what the scouts say, they say he has great floor vision and one day could be a jason kid with a better offensive game... I would consider that up there on the level of an elite passer.

Both players are equal in value and both players are capable of helping their team become better. The real question that Chicago is thinking is: Which player would fit into are team the best?
For at least two years now, there has been speculation that Ben Gordon, Deng, or Hinrich was going to be traded. If you look at the forwards position, you have young guys such as Noah and Thomas. I'm not saying that they are good, but the Bulls drafted them for a reason and so I don't think that they would draft another forward in Beasley. Rose, on the other hand, can come in and start if the Bulls decide to trade their guards. Also, if they draft Rose, the Bulls SHOULD trade either Hinrich or Gordon (along with Nocioni and Hughes) to another team hoping to get back pieces that can build around the starting lineup. Maybe they could get a quality center, because Noah cannot play center throughout the whole game. Also, they can get back a quality PG to backup Rose in case he stumbles for a given period.

It's apples and oranges, but both apples and oranges are delicious. The Bulls really can't go wrong with this pick. I like Rose, but either way, they're going to get a player that can make an immediate impact. I personally like Rose, because I think he's a better leader and a better player to build a team around, but Beasley's going to be a great player as well.
Nice avatar, by the way.

I'm not bagging on Rose because I think he is a great player and going to be a nice pro, but I just don't see how a GM can pass on Beasley. Based on versatility alone, he seems the obvious choice. I understand that Rose is physically dominant at the point guard spot, but the game is changing in the NBA, and the dominant position players don't seem as attractive to me as someone who brings more versatility and a multi-faceted approach to fitting in on the court.

Hope you Rose supporters are right and I'm wrong, because it seems everyone agrees the Bulls are going to take him. I do think his up tempo style would make guys like Noah and Thomas play better. But I wonder that maybe Heinrich, as bad as he was last year, might be good enough to be a championship PG if there is a go to guy like Beasley to pass to. Not many teams have | |
