I am starting to get pumped up for the upcoming season. I am sadly not going to make a Penn State road game this year (I went to two last year) but my OOC game is going to be either Georgia vs. Bama or Vandy in Athens. There is also a chance I will be able to add Oklahoma (vs. Nebraska) to my football portfolio should they play an early game when I am in OK City. If not, I may revisit Oklahoma State.  After going through each Big Ten team's off-season and schedules, I made my initial Big Ten picks and generated a bowl line-up based on them. This is tentative list but wanted to start getting everyone geared up for the season.

BCS Title Game - Ohio State vs. Oklahoma
Rose Bowl - Penn State vs. USC
Citrus Bowl- Wisconsin vs. Florida
Outback Bowl - Michigan State vs. Auburn
Insight Bowl - Illinois vs. Texas A&M
Alamo Bowl - Purdue vs. Texas Tech
Champs Sports - Iowa vs. Virginia
Motor City Bowl - Northwestern vs. Toledo

Word has it that Penn State will be nationally televised at least six times this year. Four games have already been varified, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois). The games against Oregon State and Michigan State (a virtual lock right now) will likely be added with MSU being a prime time matchup in would could be Joe's last home game. If it becomes more and more likely that Joe is going to step down and/or they make a title run, it sounds like ABC is prepared to step up and put every Penn State game minus the three obligated to the Big Ten network (all three will happen in September), on national television.

SOS -- I agree with you.  There should be no reason PSU finishes any worse then 2nd this year.  Our recievers will be great, RB play greatly improved (addition of Stephon Green will be huge), and you would think that our QB play can't get any worse then Morrelli (i'm looking at Clark and Devlin to step up big time).  The offensive line should be one of the best in the Big10.  So all the pieces are there on offense.  Defense should not be a concern, as it will be solid like it has been.

I am thinking addition by subtraction as far as the QB situation is concerned. They never really adapted the offense to Morelli's strengths and weaknesses costing them at least four games the last two years. Both Devlin and Clark fit what they want to do to a tee. Oregon State could be a challenge or they could roll over based on their recent history but their offense does not match up well against the Defense. Wisconsin on the road could be tricky if Joe comes out with the tired old road game plan that cost them three games last season.

The preseason hype has begun!

C'mon guys, you're starting to make me have heightened expectations with this program for 2008.

SOS - no bowling for Michigan?  You think they'll be that bad and unable to finish at .500??  I don't know, but that would be an enjoyable season for the rest of the Big 10.

Oh, and another tidbit for everyone to think about...if Todd Boeckman at OSU goes down with an injury, their backup is Terrelle Pryor.  That could spell HUGE trouble for the Bucks.  I don't see that happening, but the season is unpredictable...

I happen to be from Detroit so I tend to know more about Michigan than most and I think they are looking at a really bad year and will miss a bowl game this year. On offense, they lost nine of eleven starters. They also lost four would be starters on the offensive line who left the program. The starters remaining do not fit the blocking scheme they are running in any way. On defense, they are the same slow unit they were a year ago, they still do not have much ability in coverage nor do they have the range to defend the types of offenses many Big Ten teams are deploying this year. There schedule does not look pretty. They start with a Utah team that is a matchup nightmare. They play a good young Toledo team which we all know is capable of upsetting hurting Big Ten teams. Notre Dame could go either way then they have the Big Ten schedule. I find it hard to believe that they will win more than five games, six at the most, which will not get them to a bowl game this year. I could also see them only winning three or four games very easily.

My only hope is that nearing the end of the season we see signs in the student section, "We are Back, Part II."

2006 and 2007 were extreme disappointments after the 2005 season.  Shouldn't have happened.
