I have always thought and wished with the way the Bears play defense they would try to look for a Vince Young, Steve McNair or Mike Vick (pre-dogfighting).  We need someone who can make some plays with their legs since our passing game has always been so horrible.  I was really disappointed they didn't draft a QB this year.  There were two potential projects in the draft that I thought would be a good risk and that was Dennis Dixon of Oregon and Josh Johnson from San Diego (who went to TB where they have 85 QB's already).  Just a thought because even the two undrafted QB's they brought in aren't mobile.  Why not give it a shot?  Lovie loves running the ball so why not find a QB who may be able to get a few first downs a game with his legs?  Curious if anybody else has thought about this since it has been years since we have even had a decent QB.

I was always a big fan of pocket QBs, because those mobile QB mostly can't pass well, and it's like you have another RB in your team, and when opposing team stuffs the run, you need a guy who will move the chains thorough the air.
And that may be a great debate for the next (2009.) draft, who will be a better QB in the NFL, scrambler Tim Teabow or pocket QB Sam Bradford, I'm a big Bradford fan, and I'll be in full support that Bears take themselves a legit franchise QB in 2009. draft - Sam Bradford.
I just hope they don't take Matt Stafford, he's undersized (listed at 6'3", but I watched a few of Georgia games and he looks like he's few inches smaller), and already 24 years old, so it would be like taking another Grossman clone, and I hope Bears don't take him.

And Bears are already set at QB spot for next season, Dixon and Johnson lasted for 4 or more ronunds in 2008. draft, and Bears passed on them, so I don't think they would even consider them now, especially after they took 2 undrafted QBs in free agency, I just hope Kyle Orton wins the starting job in the preseason, and that he leads the team to "not so disastrous" (at least 8-8 or better) overall result.

The Bears are supposed to be a power running type team...  They live and die with Defense and want the ground game to beat teams into submission by the end of the 3'rd quarter every game.

The philosiphy is sound and has worked for us in past years, it also has worked against our own defense when our Offense has struggled, our Defense would get worn done late in games and get mauled by a power running team ie..... most of last season and even in the SB of 2006.

The problem we have at QB has more to do with pass protection then having a mobile QB who can make plays on his own, for every Brett Favre, Vince Young, Michael Vick ect....  their is a Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Matt Hasselbeck.

I would love for the Bears to find a hybrid type QB, one that has the traits of a pocket passer like Brady and the elusiveness of a Vince Young but this draft class was more about filling as many holes as possible in many areas on Offense and this years QB class was less then stellar. I'm actually glad the Bears didn't waste a draft pick on a QB this year, they were trying to put together a class that can fill some voids on Offense and secure some depth at D-tackle and safety on Defense and I think they succeeded to that end, now it's just a matter of getting Williams, Forte, Bennett and even Harrison all up to speed in training camp becasue all four will be key components to any success we have tis year.

Who knows, maybe during the roster cut downs one of the QB's could be available. You never know, we could pick up Dixon or Johnson off the scrap heap or pluck one of them off a practice squad roster. I do know the Bears were high on Johnson and probably would have selected him if he lasted one moe round.

I agree BeerBearfan.  I would like somebody who looks to pass first but still has the ability to avoid the pass rush and pick up the occasional first down with his feet.

Somebody to watch for in college is Dan LeFevour.  Last year he passed for 3,652 yards and still managed to rush for 1,122 yards.

Didn't we already do this dance with Kordell Stewart a few years ago?  Let's not try it again.  The problem with VY, McNair and Vick is they were/are all sub-60% completion percentage passers (McNair completed above 60% for a handful of years).  Now if you desire a mobile QB along the lines of Steve Young and John Elway, I'll jump on that bandwagon.  But the QB's job first and foremost is to hand off and complete passes.  Let the playmakers make the plays and take the hits

I agree with S&H > let's get Sam Bradford next yeat - at ALL costs!

Not to belittle the Downers Grove product but Central Michigan? If Ryan Dinwiddie couldn't get enough attention to become a sought after QB it is gonna be tough for this kid to be taken seriously.

*btw the Bears signed Dinwidde as an undrafted FA only to cut him later. Whoops??? Can we get him back... he is sitting up in the CFL
