Just a few things about the series:

  • It was very odd seeing Jorge Posada playing first base. Though I suppose Yankees fans will be getting used to that over the tail end of his current contract.
  • Yankees pitchers woke a sleeping giant in Carlos Delgado. He feasted on them this weekend!
  • How cool was it to see two games in two stadiums in one day? Perhaps someday the fans of the Cubs and White Sox, and maybe even the Giants and Athletics will enjoy the same thing.

Say what you will about interleague play, but it makes for some exciting and/or interesting matchups that wouldn't be seen otherwise, and it gives each league's fans exposure to the other's style of ball.

Aren't the Giants and Athletes stadiums on the waterfront. It  would cool if they took a boat ride from one stadium to the other for a double header.

Interleague play is great for the local fans.  Also, SF-OAK must be cool to ferry from stadium to stadium.

As far as Yankees-Mets, this series sucks this year.  They're each .500 at best teams--at the very least they each play like it.

The Yankees allowed Delgado to feast on them when he normally struggles to hit off a tee!  The Yankees never really pulled away--save for the night game on Friday when they ould've.  They couldn't cash in on Delgado's error at first base (to end an inning).  Also, any exciting play from the Yankees must be tempered by the fact that Cincy, Pittsburgh and the mighty Queens Zoo Mets aren't exactly world class competition.

The Mets stranded too many runners--Game 2 of the double-header, they had 2 consequtive innings with bases loaded came away with no outs.  Rey Rey once more screwed up running the bases. While I wouldn't feel vindicated if I were a Yankees fan--the young pitchers have been injured for the most part--Johan hasn't come close to living up to the contract he signed.

Lastly about the Subway Series, the double-header should've been on saturday.  Foolishly, everyone had to contend with Friday rush-hour traffic.  The first game should've started at least an hour earlier at the very least.

Parenthetically, was anyone surprised that Ollie Perez got the win today?  I'm not speaking out of arrogance.  He typifies the Mets--he wins games that he's not expected to win and stinks up the joint against teams that one would expect as an easy win.  The Yankees gained momentum from reeling off two games in a row and beating the Mets' "Ace."

I'm just sick of the mystery.  Would these bums please start living up to their contracts?  No wonder Fox and ESPN passed on this series!

actually im pretty sure EVERY Mets fan expected that from ollie

the Yankees CAN NOT hit Oliver Perez...and that might surprise you but not me...you guys are pretty much a left handed team bc of your park and ollie is death to lefties...most of the runs hes let up and nearly every hr has come to righties...the key to beating ollie is an entire line up of righties

i believe ollie is like 5-1 w/ a 2.3 era in 6 starts against the yankees in his career....and i dont think hes EVER allowed more than 2 runs ...maybe 3 once...hes death to the yankees....

this series actually played out EXACTLY how i thought it would from a mets pitchers stand point

Pelf pitched well (though the defense was bad - he really only should have allowed the one run to jeter, the rest was the D) and got the win

Pedro was awful....just like every one of his starts this season

Santana pitched a QS w/ no real quality and got no run support...like MOST of his starts this season

Perez was lights out against a team that will never touch him and got the win

i actually said this is exactly what would happen and my only two questions were "A) will Pelf get enough run support for the win? and B) will santana get lucky and actually have the mets score some runs

i figured the ollie game was a lock and i knew for a fact wed lose w/ pedro on the mound...and the other two turned out how i thought they would

the only reason espn passed on todays game for the snday night gmae is that they were only allowed  1 more yankee game for the entire season and were saving it for the last home game at yankee stadium  and this coming form a metfan
