My sources tell me that the Cubs are heavily scouting Burnett and obviously have liked what they have seen recently....I feel bad for Toronto being in the division that they are in especially with the improved Rays and Orioles....Throw in the market they are in and most of their productive money makers become easy trade bait to dump salary and eternally build for the future. All the Cubs need is Burnett and Sabathia to make the 100 year drought end......wake me up when it happens!!

1. Cubs won't be winning the Series this year.
2. They can have Burnett. They already have one other former Blue Jay pitcher and he hasn't really been anything spectacular on the North Side.
3. The Blue Jays were right there at the end of May. The Orioles won't last. The Yankees will begin to sputter without an ace for the rest of the year. This offense has really begun to perform since Gaston took over. Sure, we can get rid of Burnett, as soon as Marcum comes back. If the offense keeps putting up the 5+ run average they get under Gaston, Halladay, Litsch, Marcum, and McGowan will be just fine in the rotation and more than enough to get Toronto back into position. There is about half a season left and if Toronto can just start winning some games against Tampa, a 10 game lead is made up quickly. When you have the best pitching in the league, everything will fall in line at some point.

Sources? That's hillarious. Obviously a Cub fan making stuff up out of nowhere. You also don't know a thing about Toronto. The Jays do not have to develop players for other teams, they have a billionaire owner, and a healthy payroll. The Jays have ALWAYS been able to buy (or rent) players when necessary. Remember the 92 and 93 World Series'? Molitor, Winfield, Cone, Maldonado, Dave Stewart, Jack Morris et all. Later Roger Clemens. The Jays may indeed trade Burnett, as he has a huge option after 2008, but there is little to indicate he might go to the Cubs, and it WILL NOT be to dump salary
Cheers!

I sure hope his "sources" are correct - don't all the big management heavies in MLB spend time posting on this forum??
The Jays need some bats, and if someone wants to pickup Burnett in a trade, he is gone. Burnett effectively is a free agent at the end of this season.

Once Burnett starts pitching consistently the way he pitched today, he won't be looking to move anywhere - especially if the Jays keep hitting. He did pitch a few clunkers this year, but he also pitched some great games with no run support. Run support will make any pitcher happy to stay where he is.
The story of today's game, though, that doesn't get into the stats or game reports is the outstanding defense of John McDonald - and he hit several hard shots at bat too. The Jays have too many outstanding middle infielders (John Mac, Hill, Eckstein, Scutaro, Inglett). They can't all play, so someone will have to go once Hill is back. Who goes?

Great question. Johnny Mac stays because in my opinion, he's the best defender on this team, and that's including Wells. Inglett's bat (and speed) has to be kept around, so I keep him. Eck has hit in the past, and has other intangibles, so I think the odd guy out is Scutaro. We reeeeeeeally need Aaron's bat back in this lineup. It's gonna be an exciting 2nd half.
Go Cito, and GO JAYS!!!!!
