Welcome back to LA!

Though he is wearing the wrong uniform.

Why would you give up 17 million a year payday for an average of slightly better than 10??

He took a $4 million paycut, on average, it would appear. My only guess is he thinks the Clippers are going to be able to put together a winning team with a healthy Elton Brand, Mobley and Thornton. Granted, the Warriors were in a much better place in the standings last season than the Clippers...but maybe he felt the Warriors had gotten as far as they were going to go? In reality, it could have been any number of reasons, but this definitely gets the Clippers back into the discussion of the Western Conference playoffs.

I read somewhere (foxsports.com) I think that Elton Brand would take a contract that offers less a year if the Clippers would sign a good PG like Baron Davis.

Kaman
Al Thorton
Elton Brand
Baron Davis
Cuttino Mobley/Eric Gordon

I by no means trying to write that the Clippers would win the finals, but it may be enough to make it to the playoffs.

Al Thorton is a very similar player to Corey Maggette.

i'm not exactly sure how NBA contracts work, but he can sign a contract to make 65 million, and lock up a paycheck for 5 years. if he gets hurt this year with out a new contract, teams could possibly be cautious about signing him to a big money, long term contract next offseason.

Baron Davis signs with the Clippers at a lower money deal perhaps, but if the Clippers do well, it could be assumed that in such a market as LA, he can get some more endorsements than he would've in SF/Northern California market.  At 29, he's still marketable to an extent and a 5 year deal really means in 4 years he'll be looking for a new contract. That'll be 33; perfect timing for that 1 last big one. Hopefully by then the Clippers would've done better, and they should.

Considering that Cuttino Mobley has 2 years left, that chunk of contract can become something rather useful next year  as a trade piece for the Clippers also to get improving pieces and so forth. So long term speaking, the Clippers are in good shape. They're all relatively young and talented. Perhaps next year is a simple playoff appearance, but they have their core signed to long term deals (assuming Brand re-signs, which is a safe assumption), and a very nice draft this year; Gordon can score and DeAndre Jordan could become a steal. The Clippers are on the right track.

With this all said, :) let's all just remember that the Clippers are cursed.

Age in the 30 and career shooting only 41%. 65 millions contract, I would take it ASAP.
