Since its a pretty slow day, I thought I would ask you guys..... Who was your first choice for the Head Coach when Tubby left?? Was Billy the guy you wanted or was here another? This is just for fun, I'm glad we got Billy G. I think now he was the best choice. Who did you guys was right when the job came open?

I might get slammed for this, but I really wanted John Calipari to come to UK. I think John would have gotten us back like we was in the late 90's.  John has that New York connection to recuit. Look at what he did with Umass ( I hate to say it...but Umass was one of the two losses in 96) and look what he has done for Memphis....he can recuit and Motavite his players really good.....sorry fellows wildcaters...but I would have hope for Calipari....but I love what Billy G has done and I am really happy with him....I am glad we did not get Billy D./ Bruce P. /or any other former wildcats player...they make good coaches on other teams...but none of them fit the mold of a UK wildcats coach like Billy G or John C. or Ric P.....

My first choice was obviously Donovan, because of the UK connections and the recent success hes had. But after some thought I realized that maybe Donovan wasnt the reason Florida won back-to-back titles. Maybe he just stumbled on a Pot of Gold. But no lie, my barber in Louisville, KY told me before the tourney started that if Tubby left Billy G would be in the top 3 choices. And after watching him beat Louisville in RUPP, I had my mind made up that he was the man.

The guy i had on top of my list was donovan. He has a lot of coaching talent. Gillispie was my second choice. Then I saw what he did at his former places of employment and realized that he is a great fit and what we need here in the college basketball capital of the world. I would also like to say that Pitino was no where on my list of coaches. I loved him when he coached UK but once he went to Louisville, I lost all respect for him.

I for one would've lovedddddddddddddddddddddd to have Pitino back, but my first choice was Donovan, followed by Billy G, then either T Ford or J Pelphrey. One those two will hopefully follow Billy G, once he retires, which I don't see that happining in the next 15 years, so it'll probabaly all change by then :) :) Go Cats.

Pitino, Donovan, Pelphrey (personal reasons), Calapari, Ford, and then probably BCG.  Like it or not Rick P recruits well (in the top 3) and he will win a title at UofL for no other reason.

Donovan recruits well, see above reason.

John is my cousin and this guy knows basketball, hardwork, what it means to be a UK wildcat, and plays an uptempo style.

Calapari, someone already mentioned the reasons above but he has never been able to win the big one.

Ford, see Pelphrey above and leave out the cousin part.

And then BCG entered my radar screen.  I know this sounds crazy but I had only watched some of the games he coached and his teams played.  I just didn't like the style of ball his team played.  Still don't really but I can't refute the results.  I think you will see the results really roll in this season and I must say after 1 year I am glad for the change and I don't think we could have picked a better person for the job.

So yes, I am eating the proverbial "crow".

Go Cats and I love the question....
