Would anyone be willing ot give up either Marmol or Soto in order to get Sabathia?

I'm not sure I would, but its an iteresting question, considering they would certainly be players the Cleve would inquire about.

I would be more willing to give up marmol over soto, the catcher position is tough to player who can hit for power and drive in runs.  Even though marmol is definitely the closer of the future if it were between those two, marmol would make more sense, because of how good Kerry Wood has been this year, but i dont want to lose either one of these players no matter how badly we want C.C.

As hard as it seems, I guess I would give up Marmol. Obviously you give up him over Soto...we haven't had a steady catcher in Chicago for years and he's more than that. Yes, Marmol is great, and he'd probably become the closer in Cleveland, but I think Sabathia would be much more valuable than a Sean Marshall or Sean Gallagher in the playoffs or stretch run.

Marmol goes before Soto.

Even if Soto eventually turns into Rick Wilkins, a starting homegrown catcher doesn't come along very often.

Does Sabathia get signed to a long term deal?  Does Kerry Wood remain in Chicago?

I think those two questions should be addressed before moving Marmol.

There is no way I would part with Geovany Soto under any circumstances. He's young, hits for power, and has good plate discipline. Offense aside, he's throws out basestealers like it's nobody's business, and he knows how to handle a pitching staff. He's irreplaceable.

Carlos Marmol, on the other hand, could definitely be moved. I have as much of a man-crush on this guy as anyone, but let's be real. He's a two-pitch pitcher, and he only throws one of them particularly well (his slider). He couldn't cut it as a starter, which is why he's in the bullpen now. Ultimately, he's our best available trade chip, and if it took him to get C.C. Sabathia, I would do it in a second. We have plenty of young power arms in our system to come up and audition, and between Jose Ascanio, Kevin Hart, Jose Ceda (who's tearing up AA hitters at Tennessee to the tune of 17 K's and 2 BB's in 10 innings), and first round draft pick Andrew Cashner (who should be on the fast track to the bigs), I think we can find someone who sticks.

A package consisting of Carlos Marmol, Eric Patterson, and either Felix Pie or Tyler Colvin would be difficult for the Indians to pass up. Throw in a starter like Sean Gallagher, Sean Marshall, or Donnie Veal, and they would almost certainly have to take that.

Does Sabathia get signed to a long term deal?  Does Kerry Wood remain in Chicago?I wouldn't care if we re-signed C.C. Sabathia or not. If we do, great. We'll have two young power hitting aces on our staff for years to come. If not, that's great, too. We'll save the money to improve our roster elsewhere, and we pick up two first round draft picks. What's important is that we have him for the stretch run and hopefully in October, when a rotation of Carlos Zambrano, Sabathia, Ryan Dempster, and Ted Lilly would be about as good as anyone has to offer.

I think Kerry Wood does remain in Chicago. He'd like to be a Cub for the rest of his career, and I'd personally like to see him stay in our uniform as well. He's a better pitcher than Marmol, and thus, given the choice, I'd prefer to spend more money to keep Woody here than let him walk and use Marmol in the closer role. Like I said in my previous post, we have plenty of young power arms to come up and fill in, and one of them has to work.

On a reach ya, Marmol would go before Soto. Soto looks like he will be an all star for years. I wouldn't give Clev. that. He is worth more than those 2 picks alone. If marmol was in a deal for C.C. I wouldn't give more than him. They would be getting a ML closer, at cheap cost that they controlled for a few years for basicly 2 first round picks. In my book that's a pretty good deal alone. Giving Clev. more would be stupid.
