Wow, I am actually impressed with some actual put-together sentences there...it's not as bad reading misinformation when it's at least put together correctly.
OK then, so I'm confused. Here was your quote:
First of all so what if Brett Myers was a closer last year he still pitched great, you don't know jack about baseball first of all 2003(12-3, 3.07 ERA) wasn't that good, And don't forget about 2007(15-13,3.33 ERA) wow it really looks like he only had 3 good seasons in his career. How do you consider him an ace he never kept his loses under 5 when he won more then 15 games.
Now, we'll put aside the fact that Myers is now in the minors...which usually isn't a good sign.
So anyhow then, you are telling others they "don't know jack about baseball" if they think 15-13 with a 3.33 ERA is a good season. Now, let's see:
3.33 ERA ranked 6th in the American League:
Lackey: 3.01
Haren: 3.07
Bedard: 3.16
Sabathia: 3.21
Beckett: 3.27
Santana: 3.33
OK then, so if that's "bad", then you're saying only 5 pitchers in teh AL had "good" seasons last year? I'm trying to think of the word...what is it? Oh yeah, ridiculous.
Now, Santana also had 15 wins and 235 strikeouts. Let's see how that stacks up. Strikeouts aren't bad - he was #2:
Kazmir: 239
Santana: 235
So again, by saying Santana was "bad", you're saying only ONE pitcher in the AL was "good" last year. Huh?
OK now on to wins. Wins are, of course, a strange stat since you can lose 5 1-0 games and win only one game 9-7 and be 1-5...but every baseball fan knows that. So the best way to quickly measure the quality of his starts is...wait for it...quality starts.
Haren: 28
Carmona: 26
Sabathia: 25
Lackey: 24
Meche: 23
Pettitte: 22
Bedard, Garland, Halladay, Santana, Verlander: 21
So, he was 7th in the league. Considering he was pitching in a hitters' park in Minnesota, there's absolutely NO WAY you can say he wasn't one of the top 5 pitchers in the AL last year.
OK finally...and I have to do this quickly because I've actually got work to finish today before I leave, in 2003 he had a 12-3 record and a 3.07 ERA...which you called a "bad" year. He started 18 games that year, roughly half of a normal starter's load for the season. So I'm not sure how he was supposed to win 20 games in 18 starts. He had 169 strikeouts in 158 innings, a WHIP of 1.10 and he won 80% of his decisions. How is that a bad year? Seriously, go ahead and fill me in. There is nobody--NOBODY--with stats like that this year at the halfway point except for maybe Edison Volquez. Either way, nobody would EVER say a guy with a 12-3 record, a 3.07 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 169 strikeouts at the break is NOT having a good year.
Oh, and one final thing...don't question my use of commas or slashes. Slashes are perfectly valid there. Go look it up in your textbook. It's not a list in a technical sense, it's a group of options. Actually while I'm at it, don't question my use of the language at all.
