Orpik would be a good pick.  I think a contract extension for Wideman is in order as well.  I'm very disappointed that Metropolit went to the Flyers.  It feels like the Mike Knuble loss all over again.  Metropolit would never be an all-star, but he was one of those effort/glue guys that you need to have on your team.

It was too early for a player of Hossa's caliber to join the squad.  Save the cash space from Murray and Fernandez for next year.  I think Glenn can have a strong year again with some better luck in the health department.  If he can help the young guys with shot decision making and placement, he'll be worth his contract.

Hossa only signed a 1 year deal and next year Murray and Fernandez are off the books.  That will free up enough money to make a run at Hossa.   The Bruins were on his list of teams but weren't enough of a contender for him to sign here.  If the Bruins can go a couple of rounds in the playoffs I think they will have a shot at him.  Zetterberg and Franzen are also up after this year and the Redwings won't be able to keep all of them.  I What do you guys think of Huselius?  I think are defense is pretty solid with Chara,Ward,Stuart,Ference,Wideman,Hnidy,Alberts and Lashoff.  Hopefully the B's can sign one more forward.

The Ryder signing is a good one, but Jacob`s and his tight purse strings make signing a good goal scorer bleak! Not to mention there`s no room with the salary cap?

I hate to say it guys but we cannot really point our fingers at Jacobs anymore. He's got us at the cap ceiling again. He can only open up the checkbook, which he now has. Its up to the GM to evaluate and execute at this point. I'm not blaming Chiarelli or Neely at all. Its unfortunate that they were dealt the cards they were, and I think they're working hard, and doing the best they can to get us out of the O'Connell hole. I hate to keep blaming him but its true! A realistic goal this season would be the 2nd or maybe even 3rd round (a stretch). Its the year after that when it all falls on Chiarelli's shoulders to produce a legitimate contender. Two more months boys, before Lucic and Thornton start chuckin' and duckin'!

O'connell is the reason for last years inability to sign anybody relevant and this year as well.  He is the reason Murray is owed so much money at an old age.  He is the reason for many contracts.  He is the reason that the Bruins cant be great.  BUT, it is all on Chiarellis shoulders after this season.  I believe he will do all he can with the help of Neely to make this team great again.  And NO it is not Jacobs fault anymore.  He is letting them spend to the cap.  What else can you ask for from this guy?

I agree that Jacobs is spending to the cap and you can't ask anymore than that. The  Red Sox were losers for a many years. New ownership came in, spent the money without a salary cap and won 2 world series. The Red sox are a big market team and they spend the money. The current Red Sox owners are making more money than the previous ownership even with the increased salary which they deserve credit for.

The Bruins have always been one of the bigger market teams and Jacobs has never spent the money. So IMHO Jacobs will never get credit when ( not if) Lord Stanley comes back to Boston. Jacobs has to spend the money because it would be bad business to own a franchise that makes more money than majority of the other franchises, spend less and loses.

I'm very excitied about this franchise because of Kessell, Lucic, Kobasew and the salary cap. The salary cap takes Jacobs out of the picture IMHO because he has to spend the $$.  Chiarelli is drafting and developing a core group. Chiarelli also signed Chara to a huge  free agent contract so he is spending the free agent money. You cant' get the best guy every year.

Murray and Zhamnov are killing the B's. I hope Fernandez turns out to be a good signing. At least I'm talking hockey in July which I haven't done since Neely laced em' up.
