I’ll believe this crap when Brett Favre himself come out and says it.Dawg..that was my first inclination as well. However, I would think that a respected journalist such as Jason Wilde wouldn't risk his reputation on hearsay. I was listening to a radio talk show on the way home from work and Wilde was quoted as saying he got this information from an incredibly reliable source.
Are we really that suprised anyway? Remember, it was more of the mental part of the game that he didn't feel he could commit himself to, not the physical part. We all knew he could still play that is why it was such a big shock when he announced his retirement.
Don't ge me wrong. I have nothing but love for number 4. But the idea of him coming back has me at odds. First, I finally put closure to him not being with the team and was stoked about the possibility of a whole new era of Packer football with Rodgers at the helm. Now, this story just puts a big ring of uncertainty around the upcoming season.....again! Second, this is akin to watching your father get old. I mean when we were kids, you looked up to your dad as Superman. There wasn't a thing he couldn't do. Watching Superman get old and feeble is gut wretching and it tears at your heart. I do not want to see Favre flail away like Marino did during his last season nor do I want to see him get carted off the field either. He has been blessed for so many years dodging that one big hit that would either sideline him or end his career. How long can his luck last out.
Anyway, wrote a lot more than I intended. As much as I would like to see Favre behind center again for the Packers, I think in the long run that the best decision is to let him go and concentrate on the future of the organization as opposed to holding onto the past.
