Today is possibly one of the worst days I have had in my sports loving life. As anyone who has seen my posts on these boards knows, I have a very special place in my sports loving heart for Sean Avery. Now my favorite team has neglected to retain his services and he has gone to the Dallas Stars. So I am faced with a Dilemma; Who do I root for? I am a firm believer in “The name on the Back of the Jersey is not as important as the name on the Front” but these past few days have made me wonder if the Rangers organization even cares about winning….let alone it’s fans. Before I go off on a tangent let me say this, I still love the Rangers and always will. I will still watch and follow the team. However I will say this, I will be following the Stars also. I lived in Dallas for a year and grew a little soft spot for them because they posed no immediate threat to the Rangers so I guess you could say they were my second Fav team.
The Rangers….well lets just say that in my eyes they couldn’t have handled this off season any worse.
A) they had a chance during the season to lock up Rozsival for a pretty decent price but they let him go to free agency and then wound up paying more for him.
B) instead of spending money on a nice young player like Vrabata, they go out and sign two fourth line guys, neither of which has scored more than 10 goals in a season. Like we need more of those guys!
C) instead of getting Streit who is on the upturn of his career and would have come cheap, they overpay for Redden who has had two off years in a row.
D) the icing on the Cake! They let Avery walk, and for a contract that only would have coast them about 500k more a year than their initial offer. Great Job!
So what’s the point of all of this? Basically what I want to say is SCR3W YOU Glen Sather. And I would like to announce that the Stars are now officially my 1a team.
I’m sure I will calm down more as the summer passes, but for right now … I’m not happy.
