I haven't felt this way since the mid 1980's. I don't really expect this team to win anymore.
I'll watch 'em because being a scrutinizing/unhappy fan is above and beyond a bandwagon team. However, I just don't have a heart for the Braves right now.
Why?
They've pretty much shredded it up. I still clap, pay to see 'em, and cheer when they win. On the other hand, when they lose; C'est La Vie.
It's been a long time since I've said this in July, but:
Time to concentrate on next year.
Let's trade Tex (hate to say that because he's a fellow Tech alumnus).
Let's give Schafer, Jones, Anderson, and Stockman (he was sent back down WHY?) some playing time.
Let's get more speed on this team for next year.
Things I haven't made my mind up about yet:
Cox, God love ya, I don't know if I'm happy about the re-sign for next year.
Pendleton, God love ya too, not sure about your return either.
I'm noticing more and more that we go 1-2-3 in the blink of an eye. Also, we swing at the first pitch way too much.
I'm just gonna stop. This is frustration at it's worst. Maybe I do have some heart left, but it's black and mad.

I know where you are coming from. They shouldn't trade Tex. They can resign him to a long term deal, and he can lead the team in winning seasons, and, god forbid, a rebuilding stage, if it comes to that. I'm pretty much fed up with Cox. He has flaws. He has flaws that he's had for a long time. They just seem worse. I can honestly say there have been at least 5 outcome changing decisions that I was in disbelief when he made whatever the move may have been. I lay about 5 losses this year directly at Cox's doorstep. Great manager, but I'm not too happy that he's staying right now. Pendelton I think is fine. He doesn't hit, the players do. From all indications, he does a good job. I'd be a lot more comfortable with him as the manager than Bobby, suffice it to say.

Ah, level heads raise the bar. After a little youtubing and laughing at fat kids falling off of various objects I am back to normal. The team is still in shambles, but at least I'm smiling.
We are freeing up quite a bit of cash for 2009. Keeping Tex is not totally out of the question. And not to turn it into a repetitive "Can we keep Tex?" discussion, I'll just leave it at that.
Terry does not hit, you're right. I wish he did, though. Memories of the 1992 NLCS.
It almost feels wrong to not want Cox coming back. It really feels wrong re-reading that last sentence and sensing an involuntary double entendre. Sorry, like I said: I'm in a silly mood from youtube. Cox has brought more success to this city than any other manager. This feeling of doubt is looming and I can't shake it. Either it's frustration or relative scrutiny.
I'm going with the latter.

I agree 14, I think we should keep Tex as long as it doesn't tie up all our money the Wells' deal with Toronto. I agree with Chop that we need more speed. To be successful in the NL, you have got to have speed. Jordan Schaffer will probably be up next season and maybe Josh Anderson, both of whom can fly. We also need one more starter. C.C Sabathia, Brab Penny, and Rich Harden will be available. I'd be happy with anyone of those. One of the three would be a great compliment to Huddi, J.J, JoJo and Morton (assuming they will our starting 4).
Im in the same boat as both of you when comes to Cox. Its just time for him to go, I've been saying it for three seasons now and he is starting to prove me right. If I was Frank Wren, I'd let Bobby go after this season, or even tomorrow, but that won't happen. Those guys have been together for to long, but instead of worrying about friendship, Wren needs to worry about this team.

You're absolutely right Chop. You look in the dugout and there is no emotion. Guys are just sitting on the bench with there heads hanging down. It seems like they don't care anymore. What they need is a good kick in the ass and a reminder that they are, not only getting paid more in one season then a lot of people make in a lifetime, but getting paid to play the same game they did when they were 8 years old.

To be successful in the NL, you have got to have speed.I like speed, and speed is wonderful to have and all, but you don't have to have it. You've gotta have a decent offense and you've gotta have a decent pitching staff. You can accomplish either of those things with speed or without.
Just two years ago the Cardinals proved to us that you can win a World Series with possibly the slowest team in baseball. Their team leader in steals had 11. Their fastest player might've been Pujols, their 1B.
Speed is really nice to have, and Lillibridge gives us plenty of smart speed, but we can get by without it if we have to. In other words, we shouldn't sacrifice anything more valuable simply for the sake of having speed.
