Favre is the ultimate tough guy and I respect him.
But he isn't one of the best QB's to play the game in terms of winning. For as many years as he played he should have won more then 1 superbowl considering he always he a pretty solid team around him. P. Manning or Brady would have won more SB's with that team because they don't throw costly INT's.
Favre is a little too much of a gunslinger, breaking the INT record the week after he broke the TD record which combine for an average TD/INT ratio. Compare that to Manning or Brady who throw just as many TD's with far less INT's. I believe the last three Green bay playoff losses came down to a last minute INT (Giants, Eagles, etc)
Favre is probably the NFL's toughest QB ever, but not in the top 10 in terms of helping the team win. Those better include Manning, Brady, Aikman, Elway, Bradshaw, Montana, Unitas, Tarkenton, Steve Young, Staubach, & Marino even without a SB win. I'd even put Jim Kelly in there who lost 2 SB's because of kicker Scott Norwood. Barry Sanders proves you can be one of the best at your position without a SB.
Reggie White deserves as much credit as Favre for the Superbowl. He was defensive player of the year when they won and he racked up 68.5 sack in only six season with the Packers.

Sort of agree.
Favre is a 3-quarter quarterback. Meaning, unless the team is flat out winning after 3 quarters, you never know what you're going to get in the 4th. Favre has never been a pressure quarterback before, and when he talks in his press conferences, he says stuff like "I was hoping I didn't have to go back in and win the game" or "I really hoped they didn't score so we had to make a comeback" or "I didn't know how we would execute" etc.
And I think that's his problem as it extends to the post-season. The first 3 quarters of regular season games, Favre plays the game as good or better than anyone can. But in the 4th quarter of a close game... or just a PLAYOFF GAME in general (pressure situation) Favre is highly erratic, inconsistent, and sloppy.
Personally, I blame Holmgren for leaving. Holmgren was the only coach who could keep Favre on a short leash. Anyone that joined the team AFTER Holmgren viewed Favre as this ultra great franchise hall of fame quarterback... and not some stupid kid out of Southern Mississippi like Holmgren saw him as. Can you imagine Holmgren letting Favre throw 29 interceptions in 2005? Holmgren wouldn't allow that, and he'd get on Favre's butt and make him change the way he played.

Ultimate touch guy?
In actuality, he needs to grow up and be a man! Holding Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers hostage again is getting ridiculous. I was hoping never to hear his name again until Hall of Fame b.s.
GOODBYE, cry baby.

DrunkenIrish,
I respectfully disagree with your statement about Brett Favre always having a pretty solid team around him. That team struggled for years after the Super Bowl run, and not because of Favre. In fact the numbers he put up with the players around him are impressive. Do me a favor and name one HOF player on the offensive side of the ball that has ever played with Brett Favre. Now do the same for Elway, Manning, Brady.....and especially Aikman. How anyone would compare Troy Aikman to Brett Favre is beyond me.
That being said, the guy is hosing the Packers and causing a controversy that can disrupt this up and coming team.

I have always suggested that comparing the great QBs is one of the toughest things to do. I would suggest that Favre compares very favorably to all the names on the list, but he was lacking more then just discipline when compared with the other greats above. Favre never had the talent around him that the others listed above did. He also spent much of his career playing under coaches that were above average, but not exactly Shula, Landry, Walsh, Belichick etc.
Montana (Rice and Taylor)
Unitas (Berry, Mackey and Lenny Moore)
Tarkenton (probably comparable offensive talent, but had the purple people eaters on defense)
Steve Young (Taylor/Rice)
Brady (Moss)
Manning (James/Harrison/Wayne)
Aikman (Smith/Irvin)
Elway (Davis/Sharpe)
Marino (Clayton/Duper/Moore)
Of course, the above is only on one side of the ball. Usually, Super Bowl winners have great (if not dominant) defenses as well. From 2001 - 2005, every team that won the Super Bowl had a top 6 defenses. That was not the case in 2006/2007, but the SB winners in those years were clearly playing top 5 defense in the playoffs (Colts had a down period without Sanders which led to a distortion . . . Giants gave up almost 100 points in the first 2 games which distorted there effort over the course of the whole year.)
Brett Favre won a Super bowl the only time his team had a top 3 defense. That can not be said about the other QBs above. The Cowboys and the 49ers frequently had top 3 defenses. Two of Brady's 3 SBs came when the Pats had either the number 1 or number 2 defense. Even Marino's Dolphins had better defenses throughout his career then the Packers did (ranked #1 on several occassions). A top defense reduces the need for a QB try to win games on his own.
Football is the ultimate team sport. Favre never playe with hall of fame caliber players on offense, and the defense was requently not even in the to 10 . . . much less dominant as was the case with many of the QBs listed above.
Yes, Reggie (and the whole defense) deserved as much credit as Brett (and the offense) for the Super Bowl victory. That is typically the case.

Damn, that is impressive you knew all those supporting players for the various QB's. Although Brady won without Moss three times.
Favre has had several probowl players around him, although none of them hall of fame. Sterling Sharpe 92' 93' 94', Donald Driver 02' 06' 07', Ahman Green01' 02' 03' 04', Dorsey Levens 97', Antonio Freeman 98'
