how does elway have 48%???

elway defenders, i have a challenge for you. give me one tangible stat other than super bowls or int's that shows elway being superior to favre.

i think its derek jeter syndrome with john elway. "the guy just has intangibles, hes a winner." um okay, favre won more games too.

Elway had a better yards per attempt average than Favre.

Elway fumbled half as much as Favre.

Elway had twice as many rushing yards as Favre.

There's 3 in addition to the fact that Favre threw INTs at a higher rate and the fact that Elway went to and won more SBs. I personally think they are close in overall quarterbacking ability but I would take Elway over Favre. I think the reason is because I remember Elway's playoff heroics and Favre throwing INTs at critical times in the playoffs. They were both great and anyone would love to have either on their team.

Favre has played longer but john elway had more success as far as playoff wins go and super bowl appearances. Tds and wins and pass attempts are led by favre but favre played in a passing system all his career. elway didn't get to until he was under shanahan. reeves and wade philipsboth were defensive guys who played some type of martyball. Elway still has more come from behind wins, game winning drives and rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. 9 probowls out of 16. same ammount of pro bowls for each qb. john elway is the guy that would be most likely to take a team to a super bowl. he has better scrambling ability and is a great passer too. favre avaraged throws too many picks but is a great passer.

Elway fumbled half as much as Favre.

Elway 137 fumbles

Favre 147 Fumbles..in 23 more games..Hmmm..nice math there..1/2 half as many?

Elway threw a pick every 32.07 pass attempts

Favre threw a pick every 30.40 pass attempts(not a BIG difference there either

Elway threw a TD pass once every 24.17 pass attempts

Favre once every 19.81 (that seems to offset the INT per pass attempt?

Elway completed 56.9% of his passes for his career..only topping 60% THREE times

Favre completed 61.4% for his career..11 times topping 60%

Elway had 64 pro-bowlers on his team during his career

Favre 46 pro-bowlers

Elway had a better yards per attempt average than Favre.

Elway 7.1 Favre 7.0..not exactly anything to hang one's hat on?

It actually works out to be

Elway 7.1 Favre 7.0398492

QB rating?

Elway 79.9

Favre 85.7

They were both Great QBs..Favre just happens to be better

Are most of you even old enough to remember John Elway in his prime? Elway is clearly a better QB.

Elway was an amazing QB that could beat teams in so many ways. He was an amazing passer with arm strength never equaled in the NFL - This guy could make throws no one else could. And some of you young’n may not know that Elway was a great scrambling QB - In his later years he was much less mobile. The 86-89 Elway would beat teams with his mobility alone. Elway even was an effective receiver and punter on occasion back in the day!

Favre has impressive stats, that’s for sure. But he’s played longer than Elway and on much better teams than Elway. No to mention Favre has always played in the NFC North/Central – consistently the worst division in football while Elway had always played in one of the toughest. Elway also played for Dan Reeves for a good portion of his career – a very conservative offensive strategist.

And when it comes to big games, I don’t know that there has been a much worse QB than Brett Favre. Remember the game vs. the St. Louis Rams 4 or 5 years ago…6 INT’s! Last years NFC Championship game…INT to lose the game! Elway stepped it up in big games as evidenced in his 5 SB appearances-he elevated the play of those around him.
