mlbtraderumors.com is reporting the Toronto Bluejays are shopping starter A.J. Burnett for a mlb-ready shortstop. The Phillies and Orioles have been scouting the starter, but neither ball club has a shortstop in their system that fits the bill.
A.J. Burnett is 8-7 with a 4.74 era and is coming off two straight wins, most notably his last one against Atlanta when the starter pitched 7 shutout innings and struck out 11.
This is certainly an interesting trade and perhaps one to consider, however I am not a big fan of A.J.
Brents path to the Big League won't be at SS with the Braves. With Escobar already entrenched there I'd be open to trading him.
I'm not sure A.J. is worth the money-- wait-- I'm sure he's not worth Toronto paid for him. I'd trade him for say any other pitcher that might be available though.
i know burnett is making over 13 million this year but i couldn't find how many years he has left.
I say make the trade if he still has a few years left on his contract and if the Blue Jays will eat at least half of his salary........no way he is worth 13 million
bottom line is anything we can get for lilly is more than i would expect, but i wouldn't take on a big contract like burnett's
