Did anyone else hear Kenny Holland on the radio saying that he will be looking to sign Zetts, Mule, AND Hossa to longterm deals next season depending on how much the salary cap increases? Can you even imagine that? For as much as people are talking about the Red Wings now imagine that. Would be great eh? I think every Wings fan should sign giant cards to those 3 asking them to work with Kenny to get it done! haha wouldnt that be something.

Anyway i am glad FA came around i was getting bored with sports before College Football starts!

Go Wings! 2008 Champions of the World

I know I will probably catch hell for this but here I go... I am not that sold on Franzen yet... He has to have a good season this year for me to see the light... I know he was awesome this past season but I can also remember Samuleson, Draper, and Cleary having solid seasons then kinda flattening out.  I don't know...just need another hot season...

denny -- I think Franzen will maintain his level of play, if not step it up. After his time off to "clear his head," so to speak, he was ready and itching to get back to it. Franzen is mentally tough, which truly is often the test for highly talented players. And he proved his physical toughness by coming back from his "injury" and then getting right back down to business, including mixing it up when he felt like he had to.

The Wings will see many good years from Franzen.

nordby -- it certainly will be interesting to see if the Wings can lock up all three for several years. They would be virtually unstoppable!

GO, Red Wings!!

The beauty of a guy like Franzen is that he doesnt have to score a ton of goals to contribute.  He bangs, he goes in front, hes got great hands.  25+ goals are a bonus and the end of last season was special.  I wouldn't expect a repeat unless he is paired with Datsyuk and Hossa on the second line.

I can easily see Franzen and Hossa on the #2 line, but I also see Filppula there instead of Datsyuk.

Either way, he's going to throw some very nice numbers.

denny, I agree with you up to a point. A lot of talk is about how Zetterberg and Franzen are both up for FA after this next season. Now, we all know Hank is going to command top dollar, and could end up as the highest paid player on the team (even ahead of Lidstrom), but there would be nothing wrong with that. But I'm still wary of Franzen. If he puts up 30 goals this year (or more), then pay the man. But was the end of last season a fluke? A freakish hot streak? Only time will tell. He'll still get paid, but not as much. I want to see another season like he had this year before we start throwing him decent cash. But, having said all that, I believe he's got 30+ goals in him this year, especially with increased PP time and Hossa on the other wing.

Rocket:  I'm pretty sure that Datsyuk and Zetterberg will be split up next season.  Think about how hard it will be for teams to counter the following lines:

Holmstrom Zetterberg Cleary

Hossa Datsyuk Franzen

Hudler Filppula Samuelsson

Kopecky Draper Helm

How do you stop all four lines from scoring on you?

If you put Z and Pavel together then you have to make Franzen a Center again and he would center Hudler and Samuelsson while Filppula centers Hossa and Cleary.  It might be effective, but it doesn't maximize the potential for making match-ups impossible for your opponent.
