Too bad the narrow minded execs that fired Steve Stone when he was critical of the front office management of the Cubs couldn't take the heat...

Cubs fans lost a great analyst and now he is sitting in a booth on the Southside of Chicago.

Brenley is okay but I miss Steve's poignant comments and keen analysis.

I couldn't agree more.  I grew up listing to Steve Stone, and learned so more about the game in the few years listing to him then all the years listing to anyone else.

Only bad thing is Steve Stone and Len Casper wouldn't work together.  Their personalities wouldn't mesh.  I like Len and Bob as much as the next guys, but if we could replace them with Steve Stone and someone decent, I would love it.  He could do it by himself in all actuality like Vin Scully the best in the game in my opinion.

Steve Stone was basically one man show in Harry Carey's last years.  He was always saying crazy things and Steve would somehow cover for him without laughing or making Harry look bad.

Does anyone know what he exactly said bad about the Cubs management?

According to Wikipedia and take it for what it is worth as nothing is set in "Stone" from that site;

Highly regarded as a broadcaster, Stone refused a contract extension as the Cubs color-man after the 2004 season amid a controversy involving Cubs players who felt he was being overly critical of their performance. Even so, he was a fan favorite. This was apparent at the Cubs' last home game of 2004, when, after the game had ended and all the players had left the field, nearly everyone left in the stadium looked up to the broadcast booth and chanted "Stoney! Stoney!" for several minutes. One reason he was so well-liked was his ability to accurately predict what might happen in various game situations, explaining to the audience why the strategy or pitch would be successful prior to the play. A famous example of this was him expressing "I wouldn't pitch to this guy" in a 2004 game mere seconds before the batter Adam Dunn hit a home run off Cubs pitcher Mike Remlinger to give the Reds" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_Reds">Reds the lead.

Stone expressed frustration with Cubs manager Dusty Baker for not controlling his players. At one point during the 2004 season, Kent Mercker called the broadcast booth from the bullpen during a game to complain about comments made, and he also confronted Stone in a hotel lobby. Among the comments that reportedly irked Mercker were Chip Caray's praise of Astros" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Astros">Houston Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt. It was also reported that Mercker and left fielder Moisés Alou yelled and shouted at Stone on a team charter plane to an away game in 2004, and that Alou tried to have Stone and Caray banned from the team charter flights.

On September 30, 2004, in the wake of a 12-inning loss to the Cincinnati Reds that all but buried the Cubs, Stone lit into the team. "The truth of this situation is [this is] an extremely talented bunch of guys who want to look at all directions except where they should really look, and kind of make excuses for what happened...This team should have won the wild-card [playoff berth] by six, seven games. No doubt about it." The comments stunned manager Baker, and were a factor in Stone's resignation as a Cub broadcaster the following month.

Sox might have the best booth in the majors.

Stone makes the booth over the top.  Farmer is a good play by play guy, but when you have him and Stone together, IMO that just makes it perfect.

Two Salty Old Pitchers talking about baseball, can't top that.

I loved Stoney both with or without Harry and I even miss him on ESPN games with Steve Phillips and Gary Thorne.

However, I must admit Bren has really grown on me, particularly his observations on the game. As a former catcher and manager, he seems very knowledgable about the entire game and doesn't seem to come down to heavy on either the pitching or hitting aspects. Now Stoney was very good at explaining the entire game too, but there are other color men out there that tend to lean toward analysis of the aspect of the game they were most familiar with (ie, former pitchers or former position players, etc.).
