I was talking with a buddy of mine who's a wolvie fan and we had an interesting debate on what the national perception of the Bucks and The Big 10  will be if we were to win the NC this year so I thought I would pose the two scenarios to fellow Buckeye fans and get your thoughts.

I feel that we can be redeemed only by beating USC and then an SEC team in the NC if we are fortunate enough to be there in the end. He seems to think that a win over USC coupled with a win over any team in the NC would regain what we and the conference has lost over the last few years. What do you guys and gals think?

The haters will continue to hate no matter what we did.  We could schedule 3 SEC teams OOC and then beat one in the NCG and they would still hate.  Then it would be how they were down this year and that USC would kick our butts, blah blah blah.

I think Timmah is right. Most SEC fans and other Big 10 haters think they are the greatest and no way one year will change their thinking. LSU and Flordia beat us in the national chamionship game and the whole conference think they have bragging rights. This year is our year. Not the past two. Where did we start in the ranking last year like #16? If we don't acheive this year Buckeye fans will be very disappointed and Big 10 haters will be out in full force once again.

Agreed p_grove. Youre probably right that the hate will be there no matter the outcome of this season. I hope its an SEC team that we would face in the NC game if we get there, I think it would be a huge step in the right direction for us and the Big 10 if we were to beat USC and the SEC's top team in the same year, both games in hostile environments (Cali and Florida) versus beating USC in Cali and beating say Oklahoma on a neutral sight. Oh well, I guess its just scemantics... I would love a NC win AGAIN versus anyone this year!

I hate when SEC homers do that too. It seems that they are the only conference that when their team sucks, they say, well...I'm an SEC fan, and since a team in the SEC beat OSU, I get to talk all I want. That's garbage. I'm a Michigan fan, and when we got killed by USC two years ago, I didn't go onto the Tennessee board and say we owned you, since they lost to Penn State. I hope you face someone other than the SEC if you make it there, because I'm sick of them saying, yeah well we have been in the National championship two years in a row. Oh yea, last year in the Capitol one Bowl, Michigan beat Florida by 6. But If Mike Hart didn't fumble on the 1 yard line twice, then it would have been by 20. But I didn't hear anything from Florida or the SEC since. That's weird.

well I already know what will happen

if we beat USC it will be because USC is "having a down year" "but watch out for them next year!"

and then we will hear about how we were lucky that we caught USC in a "down year" for the whole season

There is no way that beating a Big East or ACC team will repair OSU's rep.  Beating a Big 12 team may depending on how good the team is but if it's Oklahoma with their recent bowl run it won't mean much either.  Beating any SEC team will change the perception of OSU football.  If they go in as the underdog that may help too.
